Can you be spiritual without being religious?

Can you be spiritual without being religious?

Spirituality might be exemplified by this quote.
John 6 ; 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

One can practice spirituality alone. One cannot practice religiosity without a group/tribe.

Religiosity, I would define roughly, as promoting an organized or local church/temple/tribe etc.

Spirituality ignores our tribal instincts. Our religiosity demand that we cater to our tribal/fellowship needs.

If you are spiritually minded and have a working moral system that you think is the best, I think that you should want to share it and have others follow it. To share it should have you join a church or religion so as to promote your good thinking.

Does a spiritual mind, if truly spiritual, have to join a religion, even if not morally up to your standard, in order to share your view and perhaps help that religion rise up to your better standard of excellence?

If you answer yes to that question, is that why spiritually minded atheists and others now forming atheist churches or churches that take a more secular role within society?

I often rail against what I see of the morality of the mainstream religions.

If inferior in moral issues, I think a spiritual person is duty bound to try to improve the morals or religions.

Well, if you are quoting John, I query:

Do you really just mean Christian-lite?

Yes, you can be spiritual and not be religious, and you can be religious and not be spiritual too.

Yes I believe you can.

Everyone doesn't have a need to share and have others follow.

Agree!

No. I reject the premise that "sharing your view" is a requirement. My evangelical church growing up preached that the way one lives their life is the best witness and way to "win people to Christ"...called their "testimony." That concept stuck with me even after I lost my faith, and I apply it now. I am inspired by others who act in kindness, openness, and honesty and as such I hope to inspire others to do the same.

Religions that teach salvation or damnation through faith have an imperative to share their view in order to protect. The idea their actions are informed by their spirituality and is that those actions will serve as proof for their view that much be shared. Personally, I am generally uninterested in the spiritual motivations behind actions because I don't assume what resonates and inspires me does the same for others.

Spirituality is sorta like math.

It comes very easy to some, harder for others. Some people enjoy it, others hate it. Some people do it in their heads, others require to write it down. Their are calculators to help us. We can study it and learn more. We all have some basic understanding of it. It's all around us, but we chose whether or not, and how, we apply it.

Yes. I’m more of a pantheist. I don’t believe in God, and don’t follow a religion, but I find a spiritual wonder in the world, and the entire universe.

Wouldn’t being “spiritual” involve worshiping a spirit? Or do you just mean “get the feels.”
