Eastern Canada

We are going to be in New England this summer and have about 2 weeks to head up to eastern Canada. We’ll be a group of 5 adults, including older but active grandparents, and 2 kids, 3 and 6. Where should we go? Nova Scotia? Montreal?

PEI is great. Nova Scotia and Montreal are very different. You could do a week in Nova Scotia and a week in PEI or a week in Montreal and a Week farther east

How rural and what kind of rural do you like? PEI near Cavendish was more built up, but had pretty farms rolling down to beautiful beaches. Much more tourism because of Anne of Green Gables.

Nova Scotia (Cabot Trail) we loved for the whale watching, hikes etc and it was just more quiet.

If you do both, Azelia B and B in Clydesdale (I think - just outside Antigonish) was wonderful - a farm with very excellent hosts - and it splits the drift halfway. We flew to PEI, drive the whole way to Cape Breton Island, and then split the drive on the return

I haven’t been in Montreal though I’ve been elsewhere in Quebec province.

Pp here - oops. Prob can’t make Azelia work - they have one room with a king bed and a suite with a queen and two twin beds.

Not PP but Quebec City is supposedly gorgeous. I’ve been to Nova Scotia and PEI but I think two weeks there is a long time. Montreal is wonderful.

Looking at the geography, I think we're going to stay in Quebec Province. Maybe a week at a cottage on a lake somewhere and the rest of the time split between Montreal and Quebec City.

Any recommendations for that cottage on a lake, or for Montreal/Quebec City with kids?

A few days in Quebec City followed by a few days in one of the beach towns in Charlevoix, perhaps Baie St. Paul. Could go whale watching. Or, go to ski area such as Tremblant, which will have fun activities for the kiddos and nice hikes.

Or, Nova Scotia - few days in Halifax and few days on Cape Breton Island. The latter is mainly for the drive, though, so you may want to consider whether the kids will be up for it. They may find it kind of boring.

In Quebec City (or on way out of it), hit Montmoncery Falls and the Quebec Aquarium.

No, sorry. I was 13. I think it was near Sherbrooke - we drove up from Vermont. I remember there was a pool and tennis courts and think it may have been near a ski area. Mostly my mom and I went up so I could try out my middle school French.

As a kid I went to Gray Rocks, but I just googled it and found a link from 2014 titled, "Abandoned Gray Rocks resort erupts into flames." Guess that's not an option!

Montreal and Quebec City. Great cities and fun for kids and adults.
