Portable crib at grandparents' house? Need advice please!

Anonymous
It's time to buy a portable crib, or maybe a real crib, for the grandparents' house. What to do? My 7-month old is big and so we think a pack-n-play won't last.

The portable cribs look fine, and we like that they can be broken down for storage. Any experience with a brand you like? Should we get a small portable crib or a full-size?

We could also buy a cheaper "normal", non-portable crib. But then it's out all the time. Plus my sister has a baby, so we can move a portable from room to room.

Any other thoughts or advice? Thank you!

We bought one of those big square pack-n-plays - Joovy has one, as does Graco. Joovy's has sheets that fit it as well. Anyway, they are big enough to fit a toddler.

We are also planning on using the pack n play for grandparent's homes

My brother still uses the pack and play for his 2.5 year old when he comes over. Seems to work!

We used the pack and play beyond 2 years and then moved her into a toddler bed - grandma preferred the pack and play vs. portable crib because you can use it outside, too. She would also tilt it on its side and put a sheet over it to make it like a little house when my daughter was walking and into playing house.

We have a Pack n' Play at grandma's, but recently bought a Baby Bjorn travel crib for a trip. If I had it to do all over again, I'd have had my mom by the Baby Bjorn. It's more rectangular than square, so there's not quite as much room as the Pack n' Play, but it's so much better in just about every way. It folds up tiny, in about 10 seconds, and stores so easily. Reassembles in 5 seconds. Nope, I'm not kidding -- it's ridiculously easy, unlike the Pack n' Play. The bottom piece for sleeping is also padded a little better/differently -- I don't think the Baby Bjorn has that hide-a-bed feel with the big bar/bump in the middle. Overall, I wish we'd had the Baby Bjorn from the beginning, instead of the Pack n' Play.

OP here - thank you for your replies! I just discovered the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light that the PP mentioned. It gets amazing reviews on Amazon and Diapers.com too. It is expensive but I think we'll get it because it seems more versatile than pack-n-plays (truly more portable, plus so easy to unfold).

The Pack & Play at my parents' house has lasted through several grandchildren.
