Hello,
Can someone tell me what the procedure is for this? Do ALL kids have to do a tryout or can you switch by talking to a coach and having them look at the times? |
| Call the team you are interested in and ask them? If your kid is amazing they may take them. If average, try out. |
| It depends on the team. Tryouts usually aren’t until the end of summer swim team. |
| Do teams allow a swimmer to try out the practices before committing? |
Yes, USA Swimming rules allow you to try out a new club for up to 2 weeks. As a PVS swim coach, I would highly encourage you to try out any practice you are thinking about switching to. Also, make sure you try out with the coach/practice site you will be swimming with not some other location. Lastly, I would encourage you the parent to not just watch the try out practice, but observe a practice when its not an announced 'tryout' day. |

| We did this. We switched starting in April. We just contacted the coach of the team we liked (we knew we wanted a small team environment and we had previously done a clinic with the team so we knew it was the right fit). They had her try out and a couple weeks later she was on a new team. We had to fill out a form for PVS to request the transfer. |
