CHAnging winter swim teams

Hello,
Can someone tell me what the procedure is for this? Do ALL kids have to do a tryout or can you switch by talking to a coach and having them look at the times?

Call the team you are interested in and ask them? If your kid is amazing they may take them. If average, try out.

It depends on the team. Tryouts usually aren’t until the end of summer swim team.

Do teams allow a swimmer to try out the practices before committing?

Yes, USA Swimming rules allow you to try out a new club for up to 2 weeks. As a PVS swim coach, I would highly encourage you to try out any practice you are thinking about switching to. Also, make sure you try out with the coach/practice site you will be swimming with not some other location. Lastly, I would encourage you the parent to not just watch the try out practice, but observe a practice when its not an announced 'tryout' day.

We did this. We switched starting in April. We just contacted the coach of the team we liked (we knew we wanted a small team environment and we had previously done a clinic with the team so we knew it was the right fit). They had her try out and a couple weeks later she was on a new team. We had to fill out a form for PVS to request the transfer.
