Squirrel proof feeder

Anonymous
I am in need of a bird feeder...are any of them truly squirrel proof? I would like to hang it from a tree, but willing to use a stand and hook if needed.

I have a pole feeder with a squirrel baffle, and there are 4 platform feeders hanging from it. It has worked against all but one particular squirrel that has figured it out. The rest are content to just eat the spilled seeds on the ground.

Yankee Bird Feeder. Google it.

I bought one years ago from a bird feed store, and gave as a gift to someone else. The store had a video running on a loop showing squirrels trying to get to the bird feed. Very amusing.

That's all I'll say. Google it. You will probably laugh out loud.

Ok, I never laugh at dumb animal videos, but this had me laughing out loud! Sadly, it's way over my budget.

I think the key is hanging the feeder far enough away from the main trunk so the little bastards can't leap directly from the trunk to the feeder. That's the tricky part with a tree hang. If you can maintain sufficient distance, then the biggest baffle you can use above the feeder should do the trick.

I'd talk to your local bird store (e.g., Wild Bird Center). They really know their stuff. Also, a feeder from Droll Yankees is a sound investment -- made in the US and really sturdy.

This is our third season with this one. I got it for less at walmart. I see squirrels on top of it all the time but they can't access the seeds or knock it over.

Grease the shepherds hook/pole with vegetable oil or Driscoll so they cannot climb. Usually works and it is pretty funny to watch. You will have to reapply occasionally.

That should be Crisco not Driscoll...stupid iPad.

Mine is on a pole / baffle combo. I have to make sure the pole is far enough away from the fence or any near by trees.

We just bought this one last weekend: https://bromebirdcare.com/squirrelbuster-plus/

So far, so good- and we have a ton of squirrels in our yard. We have watched them try to get food from it, but they can't.
