| We have not been putting on sunscreen, but with the weather turning, I think I should start. However, the kids go out in the morning and afternoon. Do the teachers apply sunscreen to each kid? I know we are supposed to fill out a little medical form authorizing topical creams and such. I'd like to know how this works, and same with bug spray, thanks! |
| Ask the teachers... |
|
You give written permission for them to apply.
You either bring your own or school provides it (ask—I’ve seen it both ways). Apply in the morning, and teachers will re-apply. |
| The way it was done with our preschool was that once it got to be really hot sunny weather, parents would sign a permission form saying teachers could reapply. You could either bring in your own, or ok them to use the brand they had there. All the different suncreen bottles were labeled with kids name. Parents applied in morning before dropoff, teachers applied for afternoon outdoor time. |
Don't expect them to do a great job.. |
| Parents apply in the morning, teachers reapply in afternoon. |
Why do you say that? Our kids have never been burned. If anything, they seem to apply more than is necessary. |
Ask your director or teacher or read your handbook |
| The morning outdoor playtime is 10:30am, and I drop off my kid at 7am, should I still apply sunscreen before drop off? Does sunscreen wear off itself not under the sun? |
| I don't apply in the morning before drop-off. |
| preschool teacher here. We ask parents to apply in the morning, and we reapply later in the day. We need a signed form for each child and a labeled bottle of sunscreen. We have a basket of sunscreen bottles, and we put on rubber gloves and apply sunscreen on each child, new set of gloves, apply to next child, etc. Takes a good 20 minutes to do 12 toddlers. |

If possible, give your teacher a sunscreen stick.
So much easier and faster to apply (like a glue stick) especially on the face of a wiggly kid. |
NP - does anyone have a recommendation for a good sunscreen stick? Getting sunblock on DD is quickly turning into a daily greco roman wrestling match. |
How would you do in a room full of 3 year olds? I assume the kids "help" |
Neutrogena makes one (looks like deodordant so it's a thick stick) which is good. It's broad spectrum. Water proof too so if the kids are wet (water table) it's good for 80 min. Banana Boat makes the more traditional sunscreen "stick". Also water resistant, broad spectrum, etc. I'm sure there are a ton of others out there, but those are the two we use. |
