Why are my dogs eating the clumps of grass after we mowed the lawn?!?!?!

Anonymous
I can saw they have never been in a recently mowed lawn before because they moved in with me from an apartment and were city dogs. Mowed the lawn for the first time this weekend and they are both eating the clumps of grass out back. Just wondering if this is normal or strange lol

Its a diuretic.

They are skin and bones Italian greyhounds, why would they want/need a diuretic!?!

Salad

Some walks my dog goes for it incessantly. They probably feel a craving at times.

My puppy has gone crazy with the freshly cut lawns these past few days - he can't get enough of that smell!

fiber for digestion, plus it calms the tummy

Dogs are weird and they eat gross stuff. My dog loves eating the fresh grass shoots in the spring. She also loves to eat clumps of dirt that are dug up during gardening. It's disgusting. She does not eat dog poop (thank goodness, many dogs do) but she will eat other animal poop she finds such as squirrel and bird. In the long run, if they just eat grass that's not so bad.

Thanks PP, you are right they eat plenty of other gross stuff. This was just the first time for clumps of dried grass lol

They eat is because it soothes their tummies, for fiber and as a part of their instinct. If tummy is upset, grass will help. Also, they are omnivores in the wild and scavengers. Cats are carnivores.
