We have an ADT alarm system and currently use ADT to monitor it. They charge a fortune and we just discovered that if the alarm goes off, they wait an entire 2 minutes to call and find out if there is a problem which is unacceptable to us. We'd like to switch the company that monitors our alarm but don't know of other companies that just do monitoring. Has anyone done something similar whether with an ADT system or another brand?
Thanks! |
How much do they charge you? Just out of curiosity

Don't know about the equipment but if you do cancel, make sure they actually stop charging your card. 4 months later they are still charing me..... I will make my 6th phone on Monday and then after that i will contest through my credit car. When I call they acknowledge that i canceled in May and that they owe me money but they do not actually process it !!!
I am also interested in a new company since I will not use ADT in new house... |
| we have Brinks |
Yes, I want to know. |
| OP here. We pay close to $50 a month for alarm and fire system monitoring. My parents who live in Baltimore pay half that by using a local company for monitoring. My understanding is that you can use anyone to monitor your system regardless of who installs it but I don't have any leads to call. I'm sure all the big companies charge about the same... |
| I pay $36.00 for ADT, that is why I asked OP. And my understanding is that the price goes down with time. |
| Interesting. Our price has been going up over time. Why would it go down? |

I think most companies who monitor can do it for less than
ADT usually. Just make sure your contract does not charge an exorbitant fee to "unlock" the system to allow another company to monitor. Our local company charges $35 typically but I'm not happy with them so I won't recommend. |

To answer your question, yes, we have had something like that happen with ADT. Just last night.
Nearly 10 minutes elapsed between a fire alarm event and ADT calling our house, to see if we were in distress and/or needed the fire dept. called. |
| I pay $36 for Brinks, but it isn't Brinks anymore, and I can't remember their new name. |
