Expectant and Postpartum Moms
at about 10 weeks had a bad cold, including fever for a couple of days. don't have an adult thermometer, just my ds's rectal one which i am not going to use. so i don't know how high the temp got. had about a week of recovery before getting the flu shot. another fever for a day. at first i thought a cold was not a big deal, everyone gets them, but now with the flu shot reacton i am really worried that multiple fevers are going to do damage. has anyone else had experience with fevers at about 10-12 weeks in pregnancy?
I too had a bad cold right around 4-5 weeks. I was a bit paranoid as the general consensus is that fever during the first trimester is bad, but I was finally able to dig up some information that debunked that. Unless your fever was severe (103 or greater) for more than 48 hours or so, you should be OK. I imagine that first trimester illness is fairly common, and if everyone who spiked a bit of a fever had severe side effects, there would be hardly any babies. Check with your OB, but I think you are fine.
I am almost 12 weeks and, despite getting the flu shot, fighting some type of flu. My OB said to just keep taking tylenol to keep the fever under control & be sure to up your fluid intake and there should not be any impact on the baby. It is the mom that is suffering, not the little on.
