Talk to me about Vokswagen Atlas and Tiguan.

If you own any of those, tell me about your experience.
Good or bad. If you own either one, are you happy?
Would you get it again having a chance or would you
go different route, which one if so?
What did you learn from your experience so far.
Surprises. Regrets. Satissfaction..

The Atlas is a large third row SUV and the Tiguan is a small SUV that seats 5. Apples and oranges.

Don't do it - don't buy a VW.

Endless maintenance issues.

Tell me something I don't know.

I am looking at both for different reasons and I would love feedback of actual owners.

oh and BTW.. you are wrong to a degree or maybe you just have outdated info because as much as Atlas does come with
the third row as a standard and is bigger then the Tiguan, Tiguan has been totally revamped lately and not only it
is really big now but comes with third row as an option too and actually it is so cheap that most of them at the dealership
seem to have a third row thrown in just for a good measure sort of like a bonus. The new Tiguan is as big as the
Tuareg used to be and they scraped Tuareg entirely from the US Market replacing it with the very Tiguan
and to shock the crowd even more they kept the small original Tiguan on so you can get it too if you want
so basically now you got baby Tiguan and Mama Tiguan.. and Atlas is like big bad ass daddy.

More then let's say Volvo.. BMW.. ? They seem to have endless problems too.
Is it an European thing or they just have too much electronic junk nowdays
that is clearly not working half the time as one company is trying to
outdo the other and put anything they can get their paws on
and then it creates problems to the buyer.

We used to have a Tiguan. It was utterly unremarkable. I neither loved nor hated it. Like most SUVs that size, it really didn’t have very much cargo space.

I haven't owned a BWM or Volvo.

The thing is that VW's are not BWM's (not sure why folks thing Volvo's are so great - I did own one of those and it was nothing great) but you get the same headaches.

My mechanic, who specializes in VW's, tells me that while VW's are not as high end as other German cars (BWM, Mercedes, Audi) they are just as complex with similarly expensive parts. He also tells me they sell their cars at a loss in the US because they make so much money on parts and maintenance.

Market wise VW's line up against Toyota's and Honda's. Which apparently are more reliable and less expensive to maintain. When we bought our VW we looked at Toyota, Honda, Ford and Subaru and liked the VW (we have a 2005 Passat) the most (though Subaru was close but the mileage was terrible).

If we'd have had any idea how much this car was going to cost to maintain we'd never have bought it - and we otherwise have liked the car and it has worked as advertised.

+1,000000

Was burned with a Jetta and then an Audi manufactured by Audi.

Never.again

Do you notice there are zero Touaregs on the road? They were so popular the first year or so.

Look at Honda. You will see plenty of 10 year+ models on the road.

I see more Tiguans every day as I drive, wonder how they are maintenance-wise.

Atlas was HORRIBLE on test drive. My kids were sitting on the back in second and third rows
and complained on bumpy shaky ride. I had to see that, it was true. My mother in law
who was sitting with them said the same thing. It feels like you are sitting on a wooden board
and riding down the staircase.

My Jetta I traded in before the warranty was up because it was always in the shop. Then I got a Passat which was fine up until about 70K miles and then every three months something went (fuel pump, water pump, engine coils, break line leak). NEVER again will I own a VW.

Unbelievable. I just compared the prices for Vokswagen SUV's on the main website for VW and then
I went to the local dealerships and guess what!

The actual take home prices are crazy. They are giving 7K off on average Tiguan or Atlas car and they cost peanuts.
What is going on? Now I see why they are starting popping up on streets and neighborhood like
mushrooms. Looks like crowd is shifting towards them and they are trying to magnet the
crowd after the mess up with their scams. Clearly they are trying to win people over and
are not afraid to pay ton to do so.

I know few friends who switched their buying plans from more expensive German makes
to VW, wonder how they will like their choices.

Yeah, I like Hondas in terms of reliability but they lack coolness factor.

Growing up we always had a VW of some model - I learned to drive on one. Repairs were never too costly or I guarantee my father would not have kept them. I had a Jetta for a while. We now have an Atlas and love it. It's roomy, holds lots of stuff, cleans up kid mess well. There are a lot of very anti-VW posters on this thread and that's cool. I'll wave at you happily from my car.
