We are looking to book a vacation this summer with our toddler who will be 2 when we plan to go. We had originally thought we'd head to Hilton Head, SC but our accommodations there fell through and prices are high now. Any suggestions for a toddler friendly location? Drive or fly from DC but if flying, we'd prefer no more than a 3-4hr flight. We'd love to find a kid-friendly place with a splash pad, playground, or other toddler-friendly activities that would entertain her. We had a large family gathering in Florida in January so we'd prefer not to go to Florida. New England is also out because we are both from there and go often to visit family. We'd prefer to stay under $3k for travel/lodging and hope to go for 5-6 nights.

We like Lewes, DE especially because it's a bay beach, so much easier to manage little ones than the ocean.
Beach is not too crowded, lovely town with nice restaurants. |
| Firstly your kid won't care where you go. Secondly I would try Amelia Island or Ponte Vedra. Easy non stop service from DCA and cheap car rentals usually. Can do a daytrip to Savannah from both. Good zoo. |
OP here. Our DD definitely doesn't care at all, but we want to be sure we have time to relax and enjoy the vacation so having easy spots for her to play is nice. I'll look at your suggestions and PPs - thanks!! |
Sure thing. We have raised 2 kids on the beach in PV and they love the Inn and Club |
| Same boat and we are considering Bermuda but the hotel costs are steep. Is PV/Amelia Island area really hot in the summer? If we're going in August? I never would have ruled out southern beach destinations but I spent a miserably hot weekend in FL one July (seaside on other coast) and would like to be able to walk a block without being drenched in sweat! |
| What about the Florida beaches on the panhandle like Rosemary beach? |
| There must be other locations besides FL? |
+1 Rosemary Beach is awesome. Easy flight to Panama City Beach. |
| You should definitely be able to find something in Hilton Head at a reasonable price. |
