Haynes-My daughter was just accepted into PreK (2 months after their program started.)

I was offered a spot at Haynes yesterday for prek My first thought was ok, it is 2 months into their school year, what is going on? When Ihecked the status of number I was down to 7, that was just a few days befor DCPS started.

What are Haynes view on what is happening in the prek. If I choose to send her what has she missed? What would I have to focus on the catch her up in the class.

As a former teacher and administrator, your student has missed what we like to call the first six weeks of school. Therefore, the rules, routines and "how-to's" are going to be some of the learning that she will have pickl up. If she is a child that tends to adjust well and socialize after a brief time with others, she will be fine. Additionally, she won't have had the benefit of a teacher doing the baseline assessments and such. But you should not be to troubled. Good teachers know how to make up for lost time. In early childhood, your daughter will most likely be able to fall right in and your need to have to play catch-up should be minimal if at all beause the learning at that level is cyclical.

Hope that helps. Haynes is a great school, if my daughter were offered a spot I would move her.

Why is Haynes thought to be such a great school?

I am intrigued by Haynes b/c of the extended year model. I believe that by extending the school year you are able to have a more level environment throughout the year. In addition, you do not spend the 1st month reviewing what was taught and forgotten over the summer.

I have not visited yet - but plan on putting my child in the lottery.

I am a Haynes parent, and couldn't be happier! The teachers are amazing, the administration is fantastic. The schedule is fantastic. The year round model is just so perfect. Good Luck with your decision.

for potentially 14 years of top quality public education, i would not even hesitate for one second to take this spot. fwiw, we did something similar, albeit two weeks ago.

Where is Haynes located?

I have a friend whose child started "late" at Haynes last year, in K. I wouldn't be worried about "catching up" at the preK level. If it makes you feel more comfortable, take a look at the class she would be in. If you aren't locked into a private contract I wouldn't hesitate.

Where are you now? Unless your in-bounds school is West of the park and begins with J, K, L, or M you should say yes.

I would add H to that list!

I would also add one school East of the Park, Langdon!

I'm happy at Cooke. (Please don't throw stones at me, I am really generally happy there.) But I've heard great things about Haynes.

@Happy cooke parent. Why would you expect to have stones thrown b/c you are happy at cooke. And, please tell us why you are happy. I'd love it if Cooke were a real option for my DD next year.

My DD is at Langdon and DD loves it. DD is reading and doing simple addition-PK class. The program there is awesome!!
