I’m looking to have my son tested for attention issues. Any recommendations?
Also, am I crazy to seek testing of a 4.5 year old boy? |
| Check children national. This is what I'm doing for my almost 5. I'm expecting the dev ped to tell me what to do. I don't think they will recommend the testing unless they thought its needed. I belive they will screen for other things first, like hearing test. |
|
I made an appointment at Children’s. Their customary 5 year wait was in force.
Any other recommendations? |
Georgetown U Hospital, Kennedy Krieger Institute. Karen Belsito. |

Not at all crazy. Maybe crazy to have waited if you’ve long had concerns, honestly. Most of us saw them at 2-ish.
Dr. Karin belsito will see you earlier but doesn’t take insurance. There is a dev ped on staff at a children’s ped practice in Alexandria - let me look it up. |
| Stop already with the misinformation regarding Belsito. This is at least the second time that I've had to correct that fact. We are at that practice and we see her. PCC doesn't take all insurances but it does take a some. There's is also Cathleen McGrath elsewhere but you have to join the practice. |
1. What are the challenges? 2. What does an average day look like, routine wise? |
We see Dr. Belsito as well. The practice take CIGNA. They do not take Carefurdt. I don’t know the other insurances that they take, but I believe it’s extremely limited. |
Are you sure? We got 7 months waiting. Not ideal but it was the only option for us insurance wise. If ADHD is what you are concerned about you can see and OT. In my case our ped said it doesn't hurt to wait since we are not considering medication at this point and we are already doing therapy and were able to get the IEP in place. Do these others options you can start exploring. |
I thiought it was just CIGNA. She's also glib and not that great. |
He seems to be in his own world a bit when we get home from aftercare. It’s difficult to get his attention when asking questions about his day. If he’s interested, he’s very engaged. |
| We use McGrath and have been very pleased. She’s at Children’s First Pediatrics which has an office in a Rockville and Silver Spring. You do have to join the practice to see her as a developmental pediatrician but we also see her for wellness and sick visits which is such a bonus because I talk about the developmental stuff pretty much every time I see her! She’s also at another practice one day a week I believe just for developmental but I don’t know much about that. Children’s First is a great practice. I get to see her 6-8 times a year which is great. |
I'm the pp who said Belsito takes insurance and this is our deal too. Really, total wrap-around care, you can't do better than have your dev ped as your reg ped. I know people comment about Belsito's personality but I don't get it. She seems very likable and we've been happy. We saw Shapiro in the past and I could not take his "golly, gee" homespun, folksy affect. |
| For Belsitos group, if they don’t take your insurance, do they at least file the claims for you? |

The Pediatric Care Center's approach to insurance participation is based on our commitment to maintaining quality patient care in a warm and personal setting. In order to maintain the level of in-depth patient care on which we have built our reputation, we have made a conscious decision to take a limited number of managed care plans. By doing so, we can continue to see only a few patients per hour, rather than 6-8 or more. There is nothing more important to us than the good health and development of your children and your family. What can I do if I am self-insured or part of a small business? Certain insurance policies are more favorable than others in terms of reimbursement. Our insurance/billing coordinator can help you with more specific information about these issues.
