| My son has dyslexia, and struggles with phonemics. I was looking over some resources to help him get ready gr the English SOL (4th grade, FCPS), and came accross a book that claims to prepare kids for the VA 4th grade writing test. What?... Do they have to take a writing portion in their English SOL? |

I think for fourth grade in FCPS, they have three SOL's

| There's no writing SOL. What the PP said is correct. |
| All the anti-testers requested tests be removed so of course the state removed the one that was the most intensive on them. Now good luck if you can find a teacher who will teach writing in elementary. I think I even saw that they removed the writing test in middle as well. Communication we're told is hugely important, yet we have decided to never gauge whether our students are learning communication skills. Makes perfect sense. |
PP, I agree. Writing is woefully lacking in elementary school, after 2nd grade. Yet it is a key element of success in the later years (middleschool). Not a huge fan of how the tests are implemented, because i do see the gaping education holes they leave behind. |

The writing SOLs are in 5th, 8th, and 11th grade.
My DC who has dyslexia and dysgraphia has a scribe for the writing tests and a reader for the other SOLs. that way they are testing his knowledge and not his ability to read. |
There is no 5th grade writing SOL anymore. It was removed about four years ago. |

The list of tests can be found here.

What is the book? I'd like it for my own child whether there is a test or not. |
