| I've only flown with my first child who has had a passport since 3 months old. We have no need at this point to get our infant one. How do we fly with her? Do we need to bring a birth certificate? Get some sort of id? |
| Just have a copy of the birth certificate, which you likely will not be asked to produce. |
| We were sometimes asked for the birth certificate if our kid was under two and flying in a lap. |
| We always bring a copy of the birth certificate and my son's passport, but we have never been asked to show it. We've been on about 30 flights and my son is pretty big for a 16 month old, so some people might think he is 2 or older! Still never been asked, but glad we have it just in case. |

If flying southwest and baby will be a lap child vs having own ticket you will definitely need birth certificate
They have a policy to ask for it- I was always asked even when flying with a baby who was obviously less than 1! |
| We weren't asked on domestic flights but in addition to the passport for an international flight - thank goodness we had notarized letters for each other saying we gave permission for travel as my DH had to follow us a day late on our winter break and it was one less stress I had to deal with in traveling alone |
+1 for the notarized permission letters. Better safe than sorry. Also, if you can, scan all the documents to pdf and email them to yourselves so you have back-up copies if you need them. |
