| With 3 kids, we do not travel much but now that they are older we would like to take them on some trips. I am wondering how much you budget for travel in a typical year? |
We don't budget. Some years we spend more, some less. We "keep" 40% of our gross income and then blow that |
| We don't budget either. We spend what it is, however we are thrifty in other ways. We take multiple trips a year. The last two big ones (overseas) in the last year were close to $30k for about 3 weeks worth of vacation time. |
| Not much. Taking expensive vacations is like throwing money out of the window. We take one vacation a year and never spend more than 1k. |
| We love traveling and exploring and do it as much as possible. We spend anywhere from $20,000 to $60,000 a year on travel. If we had more time, we'd love to double that. |
I would hate your life. |
| Depends on your income, OP. |
Same. |
| On an average year we spend about 10k-13k, but sometimes we do a special vacation and the budget is much higher. |
|
We are DINKS in our early 30s, and probably spend 20-30K a year (on 400K HHI in a HCOL area). 2/3 is on our own trips, and 1/3 we spend surprising our parents/grandparents with trips they wouldn't do on their own (we go with them, and love this quality time!).
We so enjoy and value our travel and family time, and would spend more if our income increases! |
| We are a family of 5 and spend about 20k a year. We love traveling. |
| We seriously had this exact same thread last week. And the week before that. And the week before that. |
I would hate yours. |
| Our family has not taken vacations in the last ten years. We have an HHI of 500k/year. We spend about 40k/year to send our three kids to different tennis, soccer and golf camp in Europe, South America and California. We rather spend money on them than vacations. |
Really why? |
