Theater- which is better seat?

Anonymous
Looking to buy some Broadway tickets in a few months. Just wondering which is a better ticket:

Center Mezzanine, last 2 rows (so very back of the theater)
or
Left/Right Orchestra, last 2 rows, not close to the center (back of the front section, but off to one side)

OP, this depends entirely on the specific theater. Every theater has different "sight lines." Every theater is a different distance from the stage to the back of the house -- 20 rows back in one theater may be a very different experience from 20 rows back in another.

My advice: Go to the site www.broadwayworld.com and find the chat boards.

Go to the Broadway chat board and post your question there. Be sure to give the specific theater AND shows and you will get a ton of Broadway-loving posters who know exactly what each theater is like and who can give you very specific seating advice. They know stuff like "The set for that musical is harder to see if you're sitting too far to the left" or "Center mezzanine in that theater is actually too far back to see" etc. Broadwayworld.com has some nutty folks on there but also has a lot of diehards who will help you with specifics.

^^^ Hi, fellow BWW poster! I post there as well.

OP, also check out A View From My Seat to see if you can find any vantage points you’re considering.

16:57 back again--forgot to say, OP, the web sites for many theaters now have a feature that lets you click on a seat on their seating chart and you get an image of the view of the stage as seen from that exact seat. A great help.

Ah, I realize that "a view from my seat" is what I'm talking about above but I haven't seen it called exactly that. "Stage view" on one site I recall. Thanks, BWW poster.

If the mezzanine has another level above it,,do not take the seats. You will have obstructed view of the top part of the stage because of the overhang. I took those once, and it was a musical that had a vertical component. Couldn’t see a fair amount.

I would never get seats 2 rows from the back, unless I was not interested in seeing or hearing what was happening on stage. Its a total waste of time (and money).
