| My neighbor above me hasn’t been home for a couple of days- or from what I can tell. Their dog has been crying all night and I’m worried. I’ve knocked on their door once but no answer and I’m not comfortable knocking at 11 pm. I’m not sure what to do. Can someone give me advice? |

Slip sandwich meat halfway under the door and see if the dog eats it. (Seinfeld episode)
Seriously leave a note or ask the Super to check. Does the dog cry during the day? |
Yes- I teleworkers a portion of the day and went into the office mid afternoon. Dog was crying I the morning intermittently— around 9/10am. |
| Side note- I can tell the dog is I the bathroom. No running around. All the homes are designed the same. Bathroom above bathroom. -sigh I feel super helpless. |
| In* not I |
| You can ask the police to perform a welfare check. |
How awful for the dog! |
| You are a kind person. Please be persistent and ask for someone to check on the person and dog. Keep us updated. |
Is there a fire escape? This person should not own a dog anymore. |
| Call 311 or animal control ASAP. If indeed the dog has been abandoned for 2 days it could die of dehydration if they have not provided adequate water. Food is the lesser concern. |
| Please call. If the owner is gone, she may have arranged for the dog's care and that person hasn't come. |
Or maybe the owner is dead. definitely call for a welfare check! |

Or the pet sitter is going in and out quickly, and was told to leave the dog in the bathroom. this is SO terrible.
We had a nextdoor post recently where someone complained about their neighbor's barking dog - that might help bring your apt building/community together to figure out a plan - and maybe that owner will see it! tell everyone. |
