Things that are unintentional status symbols.

Stationery! And yes, I have my own monogrammed notes.

A friend's roommate in college did not know what a manual can-opener was. My friend thought it was adorable. I found her roommate to be an idiot. Nevertheless, the roommate (1) did appear to lack the brain power necessary to intend to exhibit status with her unfamiliarity with can-opening devices that require one to physically turn something and (2) her unfamiliarity seemed related to her status in that her family would not purchase a low-end can-opener -- even for the cook. Ergo, unintentional status symbol in her case.

Orrr, maybe you are over-thinking this, and she just was unfamiliar with cooking in general? Maybe she lives with a gadget-lover?

Only counts if it is actual stationery, not "notecards".

NP. Not sure what you mean by "notecards", but you might be thinking of correspondence cards which are a perfectly valid and necessary component of a complete stationery set, as are fold-over notes. These are acceptable for many purposes including relatively informal thank you notes such as one might write to a relative, friend, or social acquaintance.

If a full formal thank you letter is required -- by virtue of the occasion or the identity and position of the person you need to thank -- then you are correct that this letter should be written on either correspondence sheets or letter sheets depending on the level of formality required, and these two items are probably what most people think of when they think of "actual stationery".

If on the other hand, you mean that someone sent you a thank you note written on an actual notecard, while I'm sure we would all appreciate the sentiment and the time they took I would agree that it isn't quite the same as writing the note on proper stationery.

Eating habits, not having super picky eater kids you enable with Mac and cheese and chicken nuggets at every meal. A thin family. Good table manners. Knowing how to eat certain food and use particular utensils (fish knife, oyster fork, escargot, etc)

Jesus. Maybe her family's can opener just happened to be electric.

Well, Crane makes notecards, too.

Also, does it have to be Crane? I got a thank-you on Tiffany paper once, and that stuff was amazing. Like, fondle-worthy. But is Tiffany paper considered showy by the Right Sort of People? (I am not the right sort, obviously.)

Yeah. My bedsheets are always matchy-matchy, pillowcases too, because our housekeeper does our beds. I haven't made my bed iin 3 years. I think I did two loads of laundry in 2014. I work, don't throw stones.

If the sheets were left to me our beds would be an absolute wreck.

I wear my DH's cotton undershirts to go grocery shopping. Funny to see women with cotton Coach bags look me up and down.

Huh? People are judging you at the grocery store because you're wearing a white shirt? Sure you aren't imagining things?
