APS budget is unacceptable

Exactly.

There is a county board race happening right now. Has anyone asked all of those candidates if they will properly fund APS?

Thats where you should spend your time, stop beeatching about a few vaca days. The fact that APE keeps talking about vaca days instead tells me all I need to know about their true agenda.

Yup. They won't touch Youngkin or the County Board. They want to underfund APS.

There are plenty of people of all stripes who think APS gets more than its share of the budget. There are Democrats (including elected officials) who think the schools get too much of the pie. It's good to ask this question of your candidates if it's important to you, but it's an opinion held amongst non-APE people too. Btw, people are so obsessed with APE that we need a name to identify who is "not APE." Non-APE doesn't have a very good ring to it.

I do not support all of APS’ insane funding demands, because I see APS wasting and abusing taxpayer dollars on programs and people that do not benefit our children and are not worth the cost.

The most insane part of the budget is including capital improvements.

What programs/people do you want to get rid of? How much would that save APS? Peanuts.

COL is going up. Teaching is becoming increasing challenging. Classroom sizes are increasing. Put the money where it will help kids. Hire more teachers. Pay them more.

APS is underfunded by ~$50M. VA needs to step it up and support public schools.

APS funding needs are not relative to the county budget.

Could you say a little bit more about that?

I’m a teacher. You’re a fool to think there’s no impact. The extra vacation days has meant they’ve had to hire more people in finance, HR, etc. Could you suddenly do your job in three weeks less time? Make Duran take it back.

APS funding needs are relative to enrollment, COL, apparently construction costs since they cover capital improvements, classroom size, etc.

More kids? Inflation? APS needs more money.

The required funding isn’t a fixed % of the county budget.

The issue here is that Youngkin cut grant money APS was counting on. It’s not about county dollars.

On top of already under funding by ~$50M.

Ugh, PP here and I wish I could edit comments.

When I said “the issue here” I meant the issue with youngkin. Duran bloating Syphax and expanding 12M employee vacation time is a massive issue as well. Problems from all sides. I am kind of neutral on APE but they really should at least use their platform to bring attention to Youngkin’s cuts. If they don’t then accusations of partisanship have merit.

APS funding needs are not relative to the county budget.

There is a transfer to APS from the county budget. Yes there are other sources of funding, but this is a large source and maybe the largest (can't remember).
