Have you seen their schedule?

Yes, I have I posted it so everyone else could see it as well. It is not just the losses but how badly they are losing these games. It appears like they aren't even close to being competitive just look at the GD. GC - 24-6 -18 GD, SJCP IAAM B 12-11 -1 GD, PVI 13-5 -8 GD, SR 22-3 -19 GD, Visi 19-4 -15 GD, Potomac 17-7 -10 GD. THey have been outscored 107-36. Over those 6 games the average loss of almost 18-6.

It is actually crazy - how does a school let their boys' program be #1 and their girls program trail so far behind?

They have a boys coach coaching girls. Kids also are not staying after 8th grade. I know 1 2027 transferred out and is now at GC even though her brother is on the boys team at Bullis still.

Wow. GC coach is pretty lame, so that’s saying a lot.

The 27 in question moved on their own. She went from Bullis to public school then to GC. The GC coach didn't recruit her

Want to talk about nightmare parents. Poor kids...

Classy.....

How about a family made a decision that had nothing to do with you - I feel bad for your kids

Or did it? Maybe this transfer took a spot from someone who had been there all year working hard throughout fall ball and winter ball and all of the weight room workouts and conditioning...

Thought I’d post this recent comment from a boys lax thread discussion about transfers. It’s the sad truth for many kids:

“Teams and schools and coaches (and other parents and alumni boosters) have been taking advantage of athletes forever. Saw it firsthand as a player and now as a parent. Kids promised the moon and pressured to stay in situations that aren’t in their short or long term best interests and then once no longer useful tossed aside. Anyone who has played high level or even mid level sports has anecdotes about teammates who were exploited and then chucked aside and absent a strong advocate or safety net ended up in a bad way.”

This is all happening at super expensive private schools........ These kids going to be alright.

Its a game and we are all playing it including the coaches, some kids it gets them into a highschool they probably wouldn't have gone to. Other kids it gets them into a college they probably wouldn't gotten into.

Other kids just fall out of love with it or when the competition goes up a level they just aren't at that level.

Its on you to have honest conversations with your kid. I don't expect to keep paying crap employees, because they have a contract with me. I made a promise to them sure, but if they are not at the level I expect, they getting replaced.

It's life

Yes, to a degree it’s comparable to the working world with the big exception—these are kids and if playing at a high level they have a lot of their identity tied into that. If a coach thinks a HS recruit isn’t performing to what they want or decide they’re just not a great fit for the program culture for whatever reason they need to talk to the player and parents to work on improving the situation. Then if things still aren’t working or if there just happens to be a recruit they really want who will be joining the team, the coach needs to have an honest conversation so the existing player/parent understands what may happen next season. That way the child and family can decide if they want to stay or find another school, since most had multiple offers for private schools. I’ve heard of good coaches who really care about their players have a discussion with existing players to get their input on how they’ll feel if a talented new player is coming in at their position and leave the final decision up to them. Then the affected players were offered to stay at their position or move to another one where they’ll be less affected.

Can’t wait to get a shot clock. Yes, SR would’ve definitely done the same. It’s what they do. But 8 minute of stall ball is not good lacrosse even if it’s permissible.

STAB v Potomac was good lacrosse.

GC with 4 cards and played down a player for whole 4th quarter. NW commit carded out.

Don’t think they would’ve stalled otherwise.

SR only got into the game because GC got into card trouble. It was not a close game until then.

18-6 final, GC beats STAB.

Serious question-

GC got crushed by McDonogh last year with essentially the same team they have now. What is the difference since they are clearly playing lights out?

Experience. GC started 3 frosh and 5 sophomores last year. The goalie play has also been much better this year. 1 of their top draw girls was also out all of last year with a torn ACL.

And some coaches lead players on and get them to stay because they want a full roster including benchwarmers.

After the second yellow on NW commit, yes. But GC had 4 cards total and SR scored 8 goals during those 4 yellows combined by my count.

GC is the top dog in the DMV with SR second. If Visi can knock off SR, Visi could take second place which would put SR in third place. 4,5,6 are debatable.

Most definitely some do—makes them look good to have a roster full of top club players who don’t play but would play at other schools. Depth and the future are two important factors coaches have to consider but in that context to displace existing players deserves a conversation. If being recruited for a private school or moving to a new club, etc. in any sport the player and parents need to have these conversations with coaches. Nothing to do about it if they don’t keep their word, but if they do this consistently word gets around.

And many parents fear retribution against their daughters if they try to have these conversations with coaches.
