[I also posted this in the camps forum; just trying to find the best place for this!]
Hi, I’m looking to send my teenage son to a camp or summer program that provides assistance or coaching to improve study skills and executive function sort of issues so that he’s better prepared for next school year. Ideally, I’d find a camp or program that does a combination of classroom activities and fun outings, but perhaps such a thing doesn’t exist. We are in Northern Virginia, but I’m happy to consider sleepaway options if they’re out there. Any ideas are more than welcome. Thanks! |
| It is spendy and j have no direct experience but Wolfboro may be good for you. |
| There was a recent post on this I think think it won't help much - better to have executive function and study tutors that help with actual work-- i.e. during the school year. I don't think any study skills will translate into actual skills at school next year... |

Locally Take 2 works on exec function, though I haven't been...
Am sending our kid to Camp Soar this summer. Not academics but they do have an academic adventure camp: https://soarnc.org/soar-course/nc-academic-discovery/ |
| Double posting, I mean, I am not sending my kid to the academic camp, but that does exist. It's a combo of academics and 'high adventure' for kids w/ ADHD and/or LDs. |
| Some great ideas here — thanks so much! |

In school, these skills help students plan for future assignments, sustain attention to tasks, and stay organized. For some students, these tasks are like climbing a mountain: you don’t know where or how to start! This course will tackle organization, time management, and study skills. Students will develop strategies for: Prioritizing assignments Keeping materials organized Sustaining attention to tasks Managing time inside the classroom Starting assignments efficiently Managing time outside the classroom Staying organized in the classroom Studying for subject area tests efficiently and effectively. If difficulty in any of these areas limits your student’s success in the classroom, he or she may benefit from skill development in the area of Executive Functioning. In addition to learning new skills, students will take home resources that can be used in every classroom, including monthly and weekly calendars, graphic organizer outlines, and study guide shells. NEW THIS YEAR: Students will benefit even more! Summit is offering two follow-up classes to check in on progress and help set up for a successful year.
