Anyone try the intensive SM camp at Alvord Baker?

Anonymous
DD (9) has selective mutism and I’ve been looking into trying group therapy. They don’t have any weekly group classes in the near future but they do have an intensive 5 day camp this summer. She is older than the normal age for this camp but I’ve been told that wouldn’t be a problem. It’s a bit pricey so I’m hesitant; she has had one on one therapy which was okay, but after 10 sessions we didn’t see much of a difference.

My DD is also 9 and we’ve never done the Alvord Baker camp; we’ve done the intensives at Child Mind Institute several times over the years and found them helpful. It’s not a magic cure by any means, but we often saw a bit of a boost after each camp, and it also provided our child with a sense of accomplishment given that the camp is designed to give the SM child the ability to succeed repeatedly in an environment that is impossible to replicate in the real world.

Hope that helps.
