Pre-natal yoga?

Anonymous
Hi,
I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and am looking to take some pre-natal yoga classes. Does anyone have any to recommend? Especially for yoga beginners?
Thanks!

I really enjoy the Sunday pre-natal classes at Flow Yoga in DC.

I did mine at Tranquil Space on 17th St...I loved the instructor! I wanted to bring her with me to the birth.

What area do you want, OP?

Highly recommend Circle Yoga in Chevy Chase (on the DC side).

What is this one like? Is it very yoga heavy or very pregnancy heavy?

I'm not OP but am also looking for a class. I live in Bethesda but work in DC so I'm looking at both areas. I hear that Tranquil Space (I think) in Bethesda was very centered on the pregnancy and connecting with the baby. I'm new to yoga, but I would be looking at the class for excercise, not just baby bonding.

I did Prenatal at the tranquil spaces in Bethesda and it's a very a good workout, not just stretching. Love that place!

I did not have a good experience with the prenatal class at Flow Yoga - although this was two years ago so there may be a different instructor by now. It was not aimed at beginners - the instructor would call out the names of the poses, but did not demonstrate them, so since I was not familiar with yoga I had no idea what to do.

The classes at Tranquil Space are WAY too crowded. You can't even hold up your arms without poking someone in the eye. Last time I was there, it was so tight that the only way I could bend forward when standing up was to stick my head into one of the cubbies on the wall in front of me.

There's a place on 15th street, Inspired Yoga (www.inspiredyoga.com) that used to give EXCELLENT prenatal yoga classes, but recently had to cancel them for lack of students interested in the classes. If they get enough emails expressing interest, they may start the classes up again. You can email the director at info@inspiredyoga.com to try to get her to bring the classes back. It would be a great favor to those of us who loved the classes.

Is your doctor cool with you just starting yoga at 30 weeks? FWIW, I wouldn't start something new right now --- just ride out the last (hopefully) ten weeks.

I am taking Moore than Yoga with Jennifer Moore in Arlington. It is incredibly relaxing, calming and soothing. If you are looking for a bit more exercise, this is not the place. But I enjoy it as an hour and a half to decompress.

Do not go to Thrive Yoga in Rockville.

Sun and Moon Yoga has prenatal classes in Fairfax and Arlington. I have taken the classes in Fairfax and I love it.

Can you elaborate on your experience at Thrive Yoga? I was thinking of taking the prenatal class there.
