Reason not to 100% take away your kid’s phone as a punishment.

Teen missed the bus. His mom had taken away his phone and was at work. Dad was deployed. He decided to walk to school but got a bit lost. He did what everyone on DCUM always argues their kid can do when their phone has been taken as a punishment: he rang a doorbell to ask for help/directions and was shot at. Luckily the overzealous homeowner missed and their Ring doorbelll camera recorded the entire encounter.

I’m all for taking away their phone as punishment, but not outside of the house. They get it when they leave for school and give it back when they return home. You can even install an app that turns the smartphone into having flip phone capabilities until you enter a master password to allow it to be a smartphone again.

Reason not to let racist morons have guns. JFC.

Reason for a landline.

I’ll wait for the authorities to release the tape before deciding who is racist.

My bet, though is that the teen (who most likely had confrontational behavior with his mom-thus the reason his phone was taken away in the first place) was not so neutral in his body language.

I saw that story, and my first reaction was not: see, the mother shouldn't have taken the teenager's phone away. My second reaction wasn't that either, or my fifth, or probably my 122nd.

I'm waiting for an outrageous incident involving a black person as a victim, where nobody comes up with a reason why it was really all the black person's fault. I thought this might be it, but nope, here you are. So I'm still waiting.

What?! So the guy shot him? Jesus. Our country is so screwed up.

Yeah. Talk about missing the point. But, hey, let's blame the mom. Instead of the ahole who shot a kid for no reason.

The article states that the doorbell recorded the whole thing and 100% corroborates the teens story. This was the police who stated that, not the teen, his mom, or the article author. The article states that the police are throwing all available charges at the shooter.

Shot AT him. Fortunately, he missed.

Well, it's not Mom's fault the kid got shot at by someone else. Phone discipline or not.

But for those who want to take away phone privileges without taking away the phone, there are apps that shut down everything but calls. Like ourpact. I'm sure there are others.

Just FYI.

How would a landline help in this situation? Kid was lost so he obviously could not have gone home and used the landline to call his parents for directions.

OP, can you link to a text where someone suggested locking on strangers doors in this situation?

The kid knocked on this particular door because the house had a "neighborhood watch" decal on the window and he thought it would be safe. I guess we know what this a**hole is watching for and it is people with dark skin.

I'm really glad this racist couple had a Nest record the whole thing or I'm sure the police would believe the lies they told the police.
