I'd like to get a set for my nephew. |
Probably, but it's a really nice gift. I got some for my 3 year old for Xmas. She has done some playing with them, but I do expect her to grow into them a bit. I'd love to get more as a gift.
The other idea is a duplo train set. Get the train that runs on it's own. My 1 and 3 year old both love that. |
It is a great time to start building a collection. Maybe toss in a cookie sheet for them to stick to for that age. |
Thanks! I'd totally forgotten about Duplos. |
No.
My newly turned 2 and I play with them. |
I don't think so. Magnet toys can be fun for very young children, even if they aren't intentionally using them to build something specific. And like PP said it's a toy your nephew can grow into. |
My 2 year old (2 and 4 months) LOVES magnatiles! She doesn't always get them to stand up but even stacking and sorting is fun for her. She also (thanks to our nanny) knows the difference in triangles (isoscles, right-angle and the other... she knows - I don't!) because of her magnatiles.

Nah, we bought them at 2. She's 3 now and only has about 10 minute attention span for it still though. but she will play by herself with them. |
My 20 month old loves playing with the big legos and building things, so we're getting her the magnatiles. If nothing more than something for DH to really enjoy playing with while he's hanging out with her in the playroom. ![]() |
I'm sure you know this but please never buy any magnet toy, in particular, that would be small enough for them to swallow--or if you have pets, small enough for a pet to swallow. The injury in the intestines is absolutely fatal. |
+1 to Duplo this year and Magnatiles at age 3. |
We just got our 2 year old magformers and he has been playing with them non-stop. He got into them at Mt. Pleasant's library, so it was a tested gift. ![]() |
This. They're not cheap so it's a great idea to gift on the early side knowing that they won't just be tossed aside in 6 months. |
Thanks all, I"m going to order them. I don't worry about the swallowing magnets at all. They are very well made and encased in hard plastic. My kids loved them, and actually still build garages for their legos with them even though they are much older.
I just couldn't remember if 2 was too young. |
Plus, it's also a gift you can't have too much of. Two 100 packs would be great, but is too pricey for one gift. |
