| We will be in NYC this summer for a family function, and I'm looking for tips on *where* we might go for a few nights afterwards. Willing to drive as much as 3 hours or so. We aren't interested in NJ beaches since we've seen those before. We're hoping to see something new and have a little fun with our school aged kids. We aren't interested in doing a full week. Hoping to find a cute beach town or lake area. Thoughts? |

Friend has a house in Narragansett RI. My 8 year DW loves it.
What are you looking for? The Hampton’s beaches are a little over 3 hours. |
| I know people who like Montauk - which I believe is farther out than the Hamptons. |
| Old Saybrook, CT |
| Mystic, CT. |
| Block Island |
I was just going to say Narranghansett! My friend used to live there and I always loved visiting her. |
| Mystic isn't really a "beach" town, but it's a fun 2-day trip for kids. The Seaport Museum is great, and there are big sailboats that go our on the Sound. |
| Have you ever been to Fire Island. A little different. You can drive or train out Long Island and ferry over. Kismet or Saltairw maybe. |
| montauk, block island, some jersey beaches like long beach island |
| Spring Lake, NJ (actually the ocean not a lake) |
Is that legal? |
| Narragansett, RI. I grew up 10 mins from there. Very touristy in the summer with lots to do nearby for kids. Also, block island ferry is about 15 mins Away and you could take a day trip there. |
Westport, ct is like bethesda but it has a beautiful beach. |
This is for a New Jersey lake, which is different from the shore: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/swartswood.html Here's a fresh water beach along the Hudson River: http://parks.westchestergov.com/croton-point-park |
