Great Tennis Club Close to Arlington?

Anonymous
Looking to get back into tennis and want to join a club: to be in a league, to take lessons and also for social activities. I’ve looked at:

Army/Navy Club: steep price with just a social membership and apparently I would only be able to take lessons, not play with a friend unless the friend was a Full Member. But, proximity is a positive.

Also looking at Highlands and McLean Tennis and Swim. Thoughts on either?

Keep in mind:

I live and work full time in Arlington. I don’t have tons of time but would love to play 2-3 x a week in the warmer months.

My kids are teens who go to their friends’ pools so I don’t care about a pool membership.

My husband has zero interest in eating meals or socializing at a Club so I’d be by myself most of the time.

Thanks in advance!

1- you do NOT need to join any clubs for this activities. I belong to Westwood CC in Vienna and I pretty much don't play there unless it is cold and rain outside,

2- There are plenty of tennis court in the Mclean/Arlington areas. Linway Terrace Park, Lewinsville Park, Dolley Madison Library, another park in Arlington Park that I can not remember. You also have plenty of tennis courts at Long Fellow MS in Mclean, Cooper MS, Mclean and Langley HS. The tennis courts at Yorktown HS is absolutely beautiful. I played at Yorktown in the spring and summer and I saw a tennis league there in the morning and late afternoon. They posted a sign there so you can go there and find out. Lot of good players in that league, men and women. I didn't sign up because I played D-1 college tennis and I would crush all of them, LOL... Joking aside, they are the best tennis group I've seen in the area. I think they also play with other groups as well.

No need to sign up for expensive club membership. You have 7 months here in VA when it is warm to play outside. I am sure there are people @Yorktown tennis league that also belong to winter tennis club and you can play with them as guests when the weather is cold. You just have to pay a $10 guess fee.

Best of luck!!!

Tuckahoe Recreation Club in McLean, not too far from Highlands. Depending on where you are in Arlington, its about a 15 minute drive or so. Good tennis program with leagues, ladders, socials, etc. Pool is nice too. Its a little pricey (aboput $1500 per year), but there is an indoor pool and a gym, so you can use the facilities year-round.
