We are currently zoned for Fort Hunt ES in Alexandria. I have heard mixed reviews about the school. Any current parents out there that can tell me what they like/dislike about the school?
FWIW - not sure if we would do the Spanish Immersion program or not (if it is still there). Also our children won't do the SACC there. They might do the SACC at A child's place but that is still being worked out. If you don't send your kid to Fort Hunt ES then did you chose a private school? If so which one? Or did you try and move them into Waynewood or Stratford Landing? If you did this how did you do this? Thanks! |

I'm a veteran teacher with a M.Ed. and my child is in the Spanish Immersion program at Fort Hunt. Keeping in mind that "perfect" is subjective, I feel that the school's community is very close to perfect. The administrators, office staff, and teaching staff are incredibly warm, inviting, and effective.

THe only way you can get into SL is if your kid tests into AAP once eligible. You can’t just elementary school shop and decide to go to WW or SL instead. You go where you are zoned.
Our kids go to a parochial school. We have no issues with Ft. Hunt, but Sandburg is rough. Not sure yet about West Po..thankfully we have a while before high school.
I know several families at Fort Hunt and they are all happy. And yes, must go where zoned. You cannot shop schools in FCPS.
We have found that no one wants to say anything bad about the neighborhood elementary school bc the neighbor kids all attend. It makes it tough to get an accurate read on a school.
