| I have a family member who is considering a house in that neighborhood. She has a Set of 8th grade twins. I know nothing about it but I guess just generally want to know if it’s okay, good, bad and why. Thx |

It's considered a good, solid high school. It's pretty much in the middle for FCPS, but the facilities are nicer than the typical FCPS high school, because it's owned by the City of Fairfax (which contracts with FCPS to operate the school), and it has an Academy program best known for its performing arts classes.
The boundaries are a bit odd - the eastern neighborhoods near the school are in Fairfax City and then there's a chunk of western Fairfax County that's actually closer to Chantilly and Centreville HS assigned to Fairfax HS. But the boundaries aren't likely to change any time soon. |
| Good, thanks. How are you? |

Yeah, Fairfax high school is pretty much the high school that is the most representative of the county overall. Its scores are right in the middle, its demographics are representative of the county, and its even located in the middle of the county. It's not considered one of the top performing schools in the county, but families are happy there. If a kid in 8th grade is smart enough, and has the resources, to go to a top college, it won't matter whether they attend Fairfax or Langley/McLean, etc.
The boundaries are weird because all Fairfax City residents must attend Fairfax High school. The school was getting crowded so FCPS rezoned parts of the county just to the west of Fairfax City out of Fairfax HS (mostly to Woodson). It kept the areas just east of Centreville HS and Chantilly HS, which were always zoned for Fairfax HS. This just happened a couple years ago so boundaries are unlikely to change for a while. |
| I live very near the school and my children will addend there eventually. I have a toddler and a rising kindergartner. The facilities are very nice, beautiful library. I've been impressed with the high school students in my neighborhood. They are involved in a lot. The band is good, I can hear them practice from my house. |

| We are very happy at the school. The principal has been awesome and has been working hard to build an emotionally supportive environment. |
