zofran

How long were you on it, at what dosage, & did it help? How did you know to come off & what happened? I've been on 4mg every 6hrs for the past 7 wks & still throw up daily. Before going on it I was throwing up every couple hours & since going on it, I am down to 1-3x a day, but still. I went off it for a few days & was def. still nauseas all day, but didn't throw up anymore than when I take it so I'm thinking about tossing it finally. Of course I don't know if I keep it down when I get sick. My ob didn't offer that much advice, just a little sympathy.

This was 7 years ago, so I really don't recall the dosage and frequency - but I do recall that it worked like magic for me -- absolutely no naseau once I took the meds. I stayed on it for a few weeks and then cut the dosage in half on my own, and then finally went off. I was only on the Zofran for maybe 3 weeks. Maybe you should ask about upping your dosage?

You may want to try the 8 mg pills. They dissolve under the tongue and eliminated my throwing up. I still sometimes feel pretty sick, but at least I have stopped throwing up. My doctor then accidentally gave me the 4 mg pills, and I take them now and I am still mostly managing to keep food down. Sometimes I take them more like a few hours apart, rather than a full 6 hours when the nausea is really bad.

GOOD LUCK!!! Morning sickness sucks!!!

The 4 mg didn't work for me. Zofran was not effective for me at all, just expensive. I tried Phenergan and then finally Reglan did the trick. I took one a day and was fine. Of course that was during my 5th month. I had severe nausea and was hospitalized twice. Most doctors don't have much experience with Hyperemesis so I had to insist on something new. Each time I went to the ER they would try to push Zofran on me. You'll know when you're ready to come off of your meds. I went at least 2 or 3 days without getting sick and decided to start the wean because I was so scared of feeling like that again. I also cut the pill in half for two weeks just to be safe. I say if you are taking something that is not getting rid of it then you need to move on to something stronger or another drug. I was less than 100lbs after my ordeal but quickly gained the weight when it finally subsided and had an 8lb baby and 30lb weight gain!

OP here, thanks for your responses. I'm 16wks & still getting sick & feeling nauseas every day. I am petite to begin with & keeping carbs down so as long as I am gaining wt (gained 4 lbs) my dr. isn't too concerned. But I long for a sick free day!
