Safety and Reach Schools for 3.5 and 1300 SAT

Anonymous
Probably not the right place to post this given the Uber competitive climate here. But given the current state of admission and dwindling admission rates I thought I would throw this out to the group in case anyone is the same situation.

DS is a junior in MD with a 3.47 GPA and 3.7 weighted. SAT of 1300. No hooks,URM or athlete. Typical ECs with a couple jobs.
Undecided on major.

Looking at medium to large schools, so no colleges that change lives schools.

Money is not an issue. Up wouldn't mind finding something somewhat affordable.

I’d start here. I put in a lower score, to pull back results where there is a better chance of a 1300 being accepted. You can filter on location or change the SAT

This year has been really bad - even for high stats kids. For all the garbage from these schools about holistic admissions processes - don’t believe it. They want high stats for usnwr purposes. So focus on schools that your kids stats match. Then apply to a bunch, plus one reach because you never know. It’s a crapshoot.

Good list. I'd add
GMU
VCU
And most big state schools like GA, TN, SC, UNC Charlotte, etc

OSU would be a reach. Can't speak to the others.

Michigan State and Nebraska are safe matches. The others are attainable toss-ups or true reaches.

Ohio University.

Lots of great schools in this range, both size and scores. So, I’d narrow it down city? Suburbs? Rural? Cold? Warm? Close? Far?

Also, what’s his major or area of interest?

A 3.7 GPA with a 1300 should you a least a chance at most flagships, aside from places like UC Berkeley, Michigan, or UVA.

You just have to apply to a larger amount of schools now than in the past, with the understanding that 80% of them will reject you.

Pitt wouldn’t be a reach if the 3.5 is unweighted.
