Cue all the Emerald Chase people saying wait no forget we said Chantilly we want to go to the new school! LOL.

Noooo don’t send us to one of the two high schools that are closest to our community! We prefer for our kids to have to drive further to high school.

But there you go again, trying to insert yourself into other families’ education decisions.

PP oblivious to the fact that they aren’t the only ones in that situation. Why should they get first priority to be moved closer to home?

When a ready-made school magically pops up for sale in your pyramid for 1/3 the amount already planned to spend on it why don't you pop in here and let us know?

I live right near you dummy. Think about who lives right near you that has to drive far away to go to high school. You and your special community seem to live in quite the bubble.

One more thing: you are really annoying your neighbors who have kids older than yours who don’t wanna have to go to a new high school. Your advocacy is very self-centered.

Boo hoo, some kids might move once - to a top notch basically brand new building. The fact that this is all new unused capacity even opens up the ability for FCPS to phase in by grade or grandfather since they will have open seats they aren't backfilling from other schools. The new HS will eliminate a split feeder move for thousands of kids every single year. It saves taxpayers hundreds of millions, possibly more if they reduce some expansion plans that may no longer be necessary. This high school has been sorely needed and planned for forever. The contract has been signed and unless a sinkhole opens up under the building before the sale is final in August this is going to happen. Might as well get used to the idea.

Act now! Limited time offer. This offer won’t be around much longer. No due diligence required, we do it all for you! Trust us!

People have been lamenting the original sale of the land for years. Even if it leaves other HS at only 80 or 90% capacity, it will bring much needed stability to the area.

If FCPS is going to open another high school in the western part of the county, can we close a school in the eastern part?

Annandale, Lewis, Mt. Vernon, and West Potomac are projected to have about 2300 surplus seats between them by 2029-2030. That is a high school.

I want my tax dollars spent wisely. The FCPS board and Board of Supervisors seem incapable of this.

I like how that Great Falls group felt the need to put out a long ass statement about the high school purchase. Why should we care what they think about this? What a bunch of self-important blowhards.

Perhaps close Lewis.

East - Adjust boundaries for WP, Hayfield, Edison, and Mt. Vernon to take advantage of the extra space at WP and Mt. Vernon. Some Lewis to Edison and Hayfield.
West. Especially if they expand Centreville to 3000 seats. Some Robinson to Centreville, some LB to Robinson, some WS to LB. Some Lewis to WS.
South. Some Lewis to South County.
North. Some Lewis to Annandale.

DP. You’re being disingenuous. There was no real plan to build that school, just a placeholder in the CIP with a big estimate of how much a new school would cost years in the future.

But if we’re going to claim this is a bargain purchase that represents a savings of around $300M, it’s incumbent in the School Board to let us know where those savings will be redeployed. And forget about the current boundary study because this acquisition renders Thru’s work to date largely irrelevant.

The new HS would immediately become Carson MS’s feeder and those kids would no longer be split up between a larger number of HS. There would have to be other boundary adjustments too of course. But if you want to advocate for keeping kids with a stable cohort as much as possible from elementary-middle-high, another HS is what you need over there.

This would be so nice, but we are a Crossfield family and you all seem to think that we won't be included.

The bolded is such bullshit. This is just a small part of the county. They can implement a LOT of the boundary changes and hold off on anything in this area.

There isn’t $300 mil sitting around somewhere waiting to be spent. The savings is to voters who won’t be asked to take out a $400 mil bond in a few years to fund the construction.

Nonsense.

First, a new high school will affect a large part of the county, with many boundary adjustments to work out associated with the opening of this new school.

Second, they'v said this purchase will save and free up almost $300 million. There's a lot they can do with those savings, and this should be thoroughly explored before they change MS/HS boundaries anywhere in the county.

Nope. They aren't arguing they are just saving taxpayers money, but that the savings will allow them to use funds that would have been spent on the western HS on other projects.

They need to put their money where their mouths are, and identify how they will redeploy these savings on other FCPS projects.

IMO, a logical place to start would be to zone those current zoned to Carson MS as their base MS to the new high school. But who knows what the capacity will be. Very rough back of envelope math would be around 2200 kids, though that might be too much for the existing structure.
