Dora Kennedy French Immersion classes

Anonymous
Can someone please clarify if Dora Kennedy's French Immersion has a K-5, K-8, or K-12 program? What/where do students go after they complete their time at DKFI if it does not go up to 12th?

It is K-8.

The French Immersion Program is a full immersion model where all academic subjects are taught in the French language from Kindergarten through the 8th grade.

French-speaking teachers immerse students totally in French as they learn the Prince George’s County Public Schools curriculum in mathematics, science, social studies, and Language Arts. English Reading/Language Arts instruction begins in 2nd grade.

The high school program continuation is at Central High School. Because French Immersion students meet the prerequisites, all are encouraged to apply to the International Baccalaureate Program as they matriculate to high school.

Very few students from DKFI go to Central- I think there was one student (out of about 65) in my child's class that went there. My understanding is that it is not a true immersion program, as most classes are not actually taught in French. There was talk a few years ago about expanding DKFI to a K-12 program, but unfortunately it never went anywhere.

A lot of kids from Dora Kennedy go to Eleanor Roosevelt Science and Tech and then take the AP French test 9th grade.
