This is for a 9th grade girl. I've seen it in some texts and am wondering if it means hook-up? If so, is hooking up making out? much more than that? or does it vary.
Thanks! |
| Yes, it means hook-up. It varies as to what it means. To some, it means sex, but other times it just means making out. |
| Why not ask the child whose privacy you're violating? |
I am this poster. Just to add--when I used this term in college (I am 26 now), I used it to just mean make out so I wouldn't worry too much! |
parents have a right to check their kids' phones. I do it, and will continue to do so until they are 18. Why? Because as a parent, I'm legally (and morally and just want to) responsible for my child. So, if your child ever does something really wrong, and you end up legally responsible for it, don't say you weren't warned about checking your child's phone. |
"privacy" for a 9th grade girl? When she's an adult responsible for her own safety and paying for her own phone, she can have all the privacy she wants! Till then... the parent's need to keep the child safe trumps basically everything. |
| Hu is a Chinese last name |
| any context or just those two letters, no message before or after? could be like meaning like "huh" as in "what do you mean" |
new poster here - I will add that their frontal lobes don’t fully mature until their mid 20s, so they don’t stop needing guidance. 9th grade is still very young. We don’t get to stop parenting just because our kids are in high school. |
Here's another reason why you should be checking your kid's phone: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/her-son-facing-murder-charges-is-being-called-an-alt-right-killer-this-mother-blames-herself/2018/03/26/6e4326c4-02a9-11e8-bb03-722769454f82_story.html?utm_term=.cdc16798c797 |
You are a moron. My kids know that they have no privacy on the iphones. They know that we can track all their texts and there is an app that tells us where they are. It is called parenting. We are open about it, if they don't like it they are free to return their iphones. |
this story broke my heart in so many ways. |
|
we need context.
it could mean hook up (the sexual or non sexual sense) it could mean (misspelled) hmu = hit me up (please respond, let me know) it could hate u (jokingly, between friends) |
| Thanks for the responses! I think it was hook-up. She got a text from a boy asking if she wanted to hu (I'm guessing in this context it is not an asian last name as mentioned by a previous poster). She answered that she just wanted to hang out someplace. She knows I read her texts. I think she deletes some so I don't know everything. |
Don't let her fool you that easily! "Hang out" = teen code for "Horny And Ready to Give Oral U Tease" |
