I've heard people suggest this a million times but I finally joined a gym with childcare and this is LIFE CHANGING! The kids love it, I get to work out and reduce stress, my clothes are fitting better, I have more energy, PLUS a well needed break from my toddlers. What a lifesaver. How did I not do this years ago? |
I could not survive without regular workouts. It makes a huge difference in my quality of life. |
Yes, it's one of those things it's easy to put off because there are so many demands on my time but my life got better once I realized that working out regularly was essential to my mental and physical health. |
I agree- it's wonderful!! I just started going for an hour 2 days a week, and my kids go to the gym childcare. I feel great and they have a fun time. I should have done this a long time ago! |
Is there a gym in NW DC that offers childcare? |
I wish I could do this, but there is no way I could leave my kids in the gym's daycare. they would just scream. So now I have to work out in the evenings. What are you gonna do? |
Please talk me into doing this! I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and we have a gym membership but I feel so guilty leaving them there for an hour. WHY?

You know, as much as I love the gym - you can do so much in your own house during nap time or while they are playing quietly somewhere safe/baby proofed. You can look into circuit training and do a ton of different exercises with your own body weight. I go to the gym once on the weekends during nap time, and then during the week, I work 4 days a week, and during lunch 2x a week I go down to the gym in my building - it's basically a big space with cardio machines and free weights, and I do a quick 25 minute circuit with weights/stretching. You can totally do the same thing in your own home if you can't get to the gym. Also, I do a lot of walking. It's awesome that people/moms are trying to be more physically active - since having a child I just try to get creative and fit it in and I've learned it totally doesn't have to be "all or nothing." Good luck! |
I totally agree. I finally re-joined the gym when my DD was 15 months. I had no idea why I waited so long. The caregiver at my gym is the same woman 6 days a week so she gets to know my DD. My husband and I love it since we can go on the weekends together. |
Am I the only person who HATES the gym? I am envious of the rest of you, getting a charge out of it. I've always been in great shape all of my life without needing to hit the gym, but 2 months PP is a totally different issue and I am dreading the thought of actually having to work out. I've lost the pregnancy weight already but my body has rearranged itself in a naughty way so some sort of workout is going to be required to my curves and bumps back where they belong. (or at least in their old neighborhoods, if not their exact homes). |
My youngest (2 year old) cried a lot the first few times I left him at the gym daycare. I actually had to leave after 15-20min a few times because he was so upset. But I kept trying, and eventually he got used to it -now he likes going. |
Rock it OP. I like your positive vibes! |
Hang in there, PP. You're only 2 months PP. I thought I would NEVER fit in my old clothes, but then one day about 8 months PP I decided to go through my closet and just give away things that didn't fit, and it turned out almost all of them did. I can't say when or why that happened, but it wasn't bc I was going to the gym! But OP's right about the effect that working out has on the way you feel. I just wished the feeling lasted longer - like if you could work out once and feel good for a week. ![]() |
Me too! I felt guilty about leaving my 3 1/2 yr old there, since I work. Turns out he's really proud that he's able to do something for me...and I'll tell you, to get a 3 year old to think about someone else is, well...it just feels great! He says "Did you love your class Mom? Did you have fun with the ladies?" Wonderful feelings all around...just another angle to consider to get you to go! |
