Anywhere local to buy sodium alginate & calcium lactate? (molecular gastronomy)

Anonymous
Are there any local stores that sell molecular gastronomy ingredients, especially sodium alginate and calcium lactate? I've already tried Brookstone and they only sell it online. I'll call Williams Sonoma in a few minutes but they are not open yet (and their website suggests they only have it online). I'm in Gaithersburg but willing to drive up to 45 min. Thank you!!

Can you sub xanthan gum for sodium alginate? It's available at whole foods, bob's red mill brand
For calcium lactate, I had good results in powderizing calcium pills (just read label)
Good luck, have fun!

OP here, I've just tried Williams Sonoma, Balducci's, Harris Teeter, and Whole Foods, and none of them have it either.

Thank you but no, for spherification, xanthan gum will not sub for sodium alginate.

A compounding pharmacy might have both.

A home brewing store. There’s one in Falls Church next to Elevation Burger.
