Do face masks really make any noticable difference?

Anonymous
I've used various facial masks in the past and as with most other beauty products, I'd like to think I notice a difference, but in reality I'm not so sure. My two teen daughter have recently gotten into the sheet masks. They've used various brands with different ingredients and I honestly don't think they look any different when they wash it off. Yes, their skin feels smoother, but it's nothing that makes any difference visibly. Are there people who use these who really think that their skin looks noticeably better after using a mask?

Sheet masks to make my skin noticeably plumper (I’m 30) but it only lasts 12-24 hours. It’s the glycerin or other humectant — it draws water from lower layers of your dermis to the surface, and can reduce the appearance of your pores or fine lines because of the plumping. Clay masks can suck sebum out of your pores (especially if you use a BHA first) and can help loosen clogged pores or blackheads, but they can also really dry you out for the same reason. But masks aren’t magic and their effects only last a few days at most.

How often do you or can one use them?

Sheet masks can be used as often as you like or can afford, though I find my skin gets sticky after a while. (Some people will do two in a row which I would never try). I usually use one a couple of times a week depending on how busy I am. Clay masks maybe once or twice a week? Depending on your skin type.

Which ones are best?

I have noticed an improvement in my skin's texture with weekly sheet masks. The brand doesn't matter. I've tried high and low. This is my favorite pack: https://www.amazon.com/Solution-Firming-Moisturizing-Essence-Sensitive/dp/B01FP6DJQK/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1520966014&sr=8-4&keywords=the+face+shop+mask

I use two that are pretty effective:

Drunk Elephant TLC babyfacial

Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay mask

I got a super cheap pack of Dermal masks on amazon prime. They have a 16 piece set and a 24, working out to something like 60 cents a mask. My 5yo likes to pick out which one I should use after she goes to bed (and sometimes talks me into taking a selfie so she can laugh at how silly I look).

I have used several different brands and different types and I really haven’t noticed a difference.

I use facial masks on and off but I don't particularly notice a big difference. I think a lot of people use these kinds of beauty products because they are marketed so well and so people buy into it. Also the other fact is that these products work differently for people, so a brand of facial mask might work wonders for me but produces no visible difference for someone else.

I’m going off on a slant here but what has made a difference in my skin is making sure I get more sleep and eating a lot more salads (like twice a day now).
