After being invited in for an interview, a better job becomes available at the same company - ADVICE

Anonymous
Hi,

I have an interview coming up tomorrow at a company for a job that I was interested in. Recently, I saw a new position become available at that same company and it's more aligned with what I ultimately want to do. I don't want to lose out on the opportunity to work for the company, I don't want to come across as flaky or burn any bridges and damage my reputation in anyway, at the same time I'm wondering if it's okay to post for the other position now or if I should wait?

I already know that I shouldn't bring this up in the interview that I have scheduled for tomorrow. It's the first round of interviews (even though I've had 3 phone screenings thus far), so who knows - they may decide I'm not the right fit for the role and if that were to happen, I would immediately apply for the other position that I prefer over this one.

What do you think I should do and why?

you should go to the interview, not mention the other job. You should apply for the other job TODAY though.

My DD absolutely told interviewer of lesser desired job that she would come in for the interview but thought she was a better fit for the new position and why and because they wanted her in the company they were glad that she saw where she was a better fit and encouraged her to go for it. I think be upfront but keep selling yourself and how you are an asset to them

+1

Don't assume that the new job would be filled or that the hiring managers are the same. It's great that jobs that are a better fit are in the same company. Take the first job if offered and plan to apply internally for other jobs in the future,
