Please give us the directions for this and all the information about the medical colleges in Maryland.

She will need to go to a general 4 year University (any) and do very well. She will then research and apply to medical school in her fourth year of university.

her college GPA and MCAT scores are the most important factors

Also in the US you do not need to do pre-med to apply to medical school. She should go to the best 4 year college she can even if it does not offer premed. Its fine for her to major in chemistry or biology. In the US medical schools like you to have had some experience in a medical field before applying. She should consider training as an ENT or working in a doctors office during the summers.

Yep I concur with the above posts...

Go to any 4 year college and get at least a 3.7 GPA and take the MCAT end of junior year and expect to do very well on that in order to get into a medical school.

She can get her bachelors degree in anything, it doesnt have to be in science.

But she does have to complete a set of science classes.

Usually schools have pre-med advisors who will help students choose the necessary courses for applying to medical school. She will need to take, among others, Biology I, II, and III, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Calculus and not sure what else. She can major in what ever she wants. The major doesn’t matter. She will need shadowing experience and research experience as well as substantive volunteering experience. Clinical experience is helpful as well.

Thank you all. So all together , number of years before you start practicing is 12+4+4+?
Students will be approximately 26-28 years old when they start actual practice.

Yes - and how long the post med school period lasts depends on what specialty she goes into.

Good advice but I don’t think otolaryngologist training is necessary.

No, it's longer.

Basic school - 12 years
Undergrad degree - 4 years
Med school - 3 years
Residency - 3 - 7 years (general medicine - 3 years, neuro surgery - 7 years) - You do get paid during this period but not much (about $50K per year, i think)

Med school is NOT three years. It is four years.

Most Drs do an Internship of a year after med school then a Residency which is 3-4 years. They are practicing Drs but aren't making the big bucks yet and work about 80-100 hrs per week as a resident.
