Corruption in DC

The mayor just dropped $140K on Wilson and Ellington has been educating students from Md. and Va. probably for decades. That's right we spend DC tax dollars on a school that enrolls students from another jurisdiction and educates them for free.

Of course we're getting shafted on the soccer stadium because the council is too stupid to notice.

Our property taxes will rise by 10% and the city which acted like it cared is going to reap an extra $50M from Trump's tax policy. Great time to be alive in DC.

DC is no more corrupt than any other big city. It’s just judged more harshly because it’s run by black people.

I think Bowser could have a potential spin here, if she was savvy enough to run with it. The city has always been corrupt, right? So what if Bowser ran on rooting out corruption? In other words, Duke Ellington has always had cheaters - but it's only under Bowser that we're finding them and getting rid of them.

Think she can pull that argument off?

You are assuming that she wants Ellington kept quiet because it exposed corruption or incompetence.

It is possible she wants Ellington kept quiet because she doesn't want the trouble that will come from booting all the kids out of Ellington who don't belong there and most likely if they go down that path they will also have to look at the large number of kids illegally enrolled and Wilson/Deal and a slew of charter schools too.

No one I know can I explain it but Ward 9 residents have a lot of power in DC and Mayors are unwilling to stand up to them. The entire 25 years I've lived in DC most people in downtown neighborhoods have been flabbergasted that DC won't stand up to all of the illegal church parking on Sundays that makes residents prisoners in their own neighborhoods.

Same thing with the repeated killing of proposal for bike lanes around downtown churches.

Almost none of these folks live in DC so there should be no political price for standing up to them.

Yet they have oversized power.

I've never believed DC Officials were unaware of the large numbers of MD kids enrolled in DCPS - I've just never understood why they didn't seem to care. I think Bowser would prefer to not have to explain why she doesn't care and not have to antagonize those parents by sending them back to schools in their own neighborhoods.

This from Luke Rosiak. writer at The Daily Caller:

"DC+OSSE ignored us as we brought these issues to them as part of an intensive 8-part series in 2016. They refused to accept video evidence that we offered, meet w/ us about issue, or even condemn cheating”

This is the article from 2016:

http://dailycaller.com/2016/07/06/d-c-not-interested-in-stopping-maryland-fraudsters-stealing-its-schools/

And, this:

"Investigators working on the DCPS residency fraud investigation were told to "slow-track it because of the risk of negative publicity for the school system during a mayoral election year."

Mayor Bowser should absolutely have to resign for this.”

THe first thing that needs to happen is for the fraudsters to be prosecuted and to pay the fees and fine they owe.

And then you have the DC general giveaway/8 homeless shelter fiasco. And the Lab school giveaway. So many giveaways.

So Ward 9 is DC's Russia. Great.

Give it a rest. The crazy thing is, DC actually erects memorials and statues to its most infamous corrupt political figures.
