| Might be a silly/ obvious question, but how is TES? and how much better is the school, specially for Pk3-K than Langley, which is our inbound. |
| Thompson or Thomson? Two very different schools. |
| Thomson is a more afffluent school with better test scores. You might want to check on the feeders because it's either SWW or Jefferson, not sure. If you think you would not stay at either, I would pick Langley for neighborhoodiness and the socioemotional stuff. |
Op here- I mean this one Thomson Elementary School 1200 L STREET NW Washington, DC 20005 |
I have heard from a few neighbors that while Langley is nice for Pk3, Pk4 and K, it hasn't been satisfactory for grades over that. Would That be same case with Thomson. Ideally, we would want to be in the same school in the elementary years. Also, considering Thompson also participates in Early Action, how are the chances of getting into it for OOB families? |
Langley's main issue is that it has only gentrified through K at this point. I don't know much about Thomson. But if you live in Langley's zone, chances are you will get into one of the many Ward 5 charters by 1st anyway. If you don't want to go through the whode feeder pattern at Thomson then you would need to switch at some point. I doubt OOB chances are very good at Thomson. A lot of people work in that area so it is a popular school. |
| Thomson is adding a preK class this year so chances are better this year for OOB families |
I wouldn't get too excited. The preschool classes are mixed age 3/4 with about 22 kids. So there would be an extra 11 PK3 seats, most of which will be taken up by IB families. |
| I thought Thomson doesn’t really take OOB students for PK3? |
I think that people believe their chances are a little better this year because one additional PK class is opening up. |
With an early action schools, if they have to open a new class to accommodate IB demand, but don't quite have enough IB folks to fill it, a few OOB will get in. |
This happened at our school last year. They took a while to see if they really truly needed the classroom, so the waitlist did not move much, then went about 20 spots in a few days when they opened it in June. |
What is your school? I don't think Thomson has ever had problems filling their spots with IB. |
| Do they currently have OOB students for the lower classes? |
My guess is Langley |
