Is Frostburg really that bad?

Frostburg takes a pretty good beating from people on here. Is is really that bad for a B/C student from Maryland where options are limited for this type of student.

Bad in what way? It may be the right school for certain kids and not so for others. Why do you care about what people say on here? You can always transfer out to a "better" school.

I saw a friend the other day whose dd went there. Girl was some sort of art major and is now at a big consulting firm.
Liked Frostburg. I also worked with a lobbyist who went there.

It wouldn't be my cup of tea, but I wouldn't rule it out OP for a B/C student.

I'm wodering if they are speaking from experience or only what they have heard from others. I've seen comments like "I'd send my kid to community college before Frostburg". Trying to understand why someone would make this type of comment.

I remember visiting there when I was in HS. I had fallen asleep during the drive and woke up right before we arrived. I told my mom that I thought the school was in MD and she said it was. The area around Frostburg is very run down and depressing. It reminded me of WVA where a relative used to live. I couldn't spend 4 yrs there.

The people I have known who went to Frostburg all loved it. These are folks who are now accountants, in media relations, business, community college teacher, they’ve all spoken well of their time there.

If you don’t mind out of state, have you looked at Shippensburg in PA? I really like that school and campus and my stepson, a student whose grades ran the gamut from As to Cs, was accepted there. Ultimately he didn’t go there, but I wish he had!

It's about getting out.

OP, I would take any negative "slams" on a school with a huge grain of salt until I had personally visited and explored myself. And that means all the snobby trolls on DCUM who will diss any school that's not an Ivy or top 10. I tend to skip right over those threads because I know only a tiny percentage of people are actually familiar with those schools and only a tiny fraction of them have actually attended them.

I much prefer hearing from people who have honest, actual experiences with a school. From them, I've discovered some hidden gems. Frostburg could be the school that checks all your boxes (or your kid's). I would definitely investigate further! GL.

BFFs brother went there. He's now a bigwig in Silicon Valley. He has a lifestyle that makes the super rich on DCUM look poor. So yeah, I guess he did okay for himself coming out of Frostburg.

Cool, thanks for sharing

My son stayed there for a Wootten BB camp. The dorms were really beaten up and the whole place reminded me of a prison camp (FCI) I had the pleasure to work in for a time.

I can't speak about living there or the quality of the education.

Is there any school in Maryland that is in a good area? Everyone is either run down or in some remote hick location no one would to live let alone go visit.

Salisbury in hours away from normal civilization. It has the beach but it is OCMD which is so trashy.

St Mary’s is 2 hours away from anything and besides water, there is nothing else to do.

Towson is too far away from Baltimore and no public transit to get there.

College Park is yuck.

OCBC is a commuter school

Frostburg is cold, run down, and boring.

I can’t think of any other state besides maybe Delaware that has just terrible state schools.

OCBC? Do you mean UMBC?

At least Salisbury has a pretty campus and you can go to the beach. Towson is near civilization. Frostburg reminds me of District 12 from The Hunger Games.
