We have never been to Europe. I will be 27-28 weeks pregnant and we have a 6-year old and 2-year old. We dont know anything about Spain. Some people say that there is not much to do for kids and that the beaches are not great. Some recommend going to the South of Spain but I like the fact that there is a direct flight to Barcelona from IAD.

I love Barcelona, but it could be hot in June and I don't know if I'd love it heavily pregnant with two small kids. What do you see yourselves doing? In Barcelona my kids enjoyed the food, walking around and riding public transportation, including a monorail/gondola, looking at interesting architecture, museums, sitting in cafes. But they are little older.
If you see yourselves spending time on a beach, I might go somewhere else. |
| The beach is all pebbles. Pretty but not a ton of people in the water. Barcelona on the whole is a pretty grungy city with some luxury tourist parts. I don't see it being fun with a 2 year old. Do some Google street-viewing. |
| Your kids will love Parc Guell. |
|
It will be very hot and crowded. Keep in mind that air conditioning is not a thing in Europe like it is in the U.S. so if you're used to heavy A/C it might be a bit miserable when that pregnant. But you know your body.

| NP here. Sorry yo hijack but we are in a similar position. Any other recs for places in Europe? |
| A few days in Barcelona and then relax in Mallorca? |
| Why on earth would you even think about going to Europe for the first time when you're six to seven months pregnant with two small children in tow?! I vote no. |
|
I would go!
Another good place would be Amsterdam. Nice and flat, kid friendly, lots of cool boats to look at. I think there is a direct flight from IAD. |
I agree. |
| I would go with a direct flight from IAD to London or Paris. More for kids in those cities. |
You know where there also are a lot of cool boats to look at? Annapolis. Your kids won't know the difference and you'll be much happier if you go into premature labor. I can't believe this is even a question. |

We went the last week in June with 8/6 yr olds. We did an air bnb and used the metro A LOT. We had a really great trip, but we don’t do a ton of sightseeing when we travel. . We took metro and then a train south of Barcelona to beaches with white sand (one euro each)—did this twice, brought lots of snacks and ate vendor food. This would be a LONG day for a two year old. We also visited the monastery and hiked (HOT) and also went to the aquarium—kids loved it. We did the aerial tram the same day, which was beautiful.
We packed the kids’ razor scooters in our luggage, and this was very helpful for the amount of walking around we did. They loved zooming around the plazas each evening. Maybe for your six year old? As someone who really believes in routines, I don’t think I could have handled nap time in Barcelona...too much honking, too many loud scooters, too much heat. Maybe not so bad in a hotel. We were coming from Eurasia, so our time zone difference was only a couple hours, as well. |
You can’t believe someone might want to travel overseas during her pregnancy? You’re that worried about premature labor? Good lord. I don’t know how some people function. Op has had at least two pregnancies. Traveling right around 27 weeks, for lots of people, isn’t so bad...not everyone is huge and uncomfortable at that point. OP, if you have a helpful husband and/or other traveling companions, I would go. Spain is fun! |
It happens. Google the story of the couple stranded many months in Ireland after going into labor on a flight back from France. Was also a similar story in Portugal. Not worth the risk. Plenty of time for this before kids. |
