All Souls UU in DC - why did Rev. Susan leave?

Anonymous
We were surprised to learn this and loved her sermons.

How long had she been there? IME, UU ministers tend to move around every 7-10 years.

Way too much backstory for DCUM but in short...if you believe the Board and Rob there were performance issues. If you believe Susan and her supporters there is institutionalized white supremacy at All Souls.

Yikes.

Yes, the video does a good job describing one side of the story.

What's the other side of the story?

Well that there were on going performance issues but details are sketchy bc of confidentiality around HR issues.

Wow. How did that come out?

In that video she talks about actually having her ordination stripped. That sounds a LOT more drastic that just "performance issue." Something really serious must have been alleged - whether it's true is a different matter of course.

There was a separate and unrelated process through United Church of Christ (the denomination through which she is ordained). She had to go through a "fitness review" bc of a complaint by an All Souls congregant (who some believe had a personal vendetta against her). That review is completed and she was suspended but her ordination was not revoked.

Leaving aside the issue of racism for a moment, did she disclose these reasons? (UCC finding, performance issues). If not, isn’t the church violating a slew of HR norms, leaving it open to lawsuits? If that’s the case, then it would seem there are substantial management, judgement and leadership issues in the church.

Almost everything that is known is because she has disclosed it which is problematic bc it's one sided. The church did announce the fitness review and its outcome.

Thanks so much. To confirm, Reverend Susan has provided all the information and the church has adhered to all HR norms/regs?

Leaving this aside, it really seems hopelessly sad. I will miss her work and presence there. We are not members but attend 2-4 times a month

Wait, what is the fitness review?
