I feel and look better but have not lost a single pound (and I have 40 to lose!)

Anonymous
I started my “weight loss journey” in January 1. I have about 40 pounds to lose to get me back to where I was when I was at my most healthy, and pre wedding/baby.

I’ve been eating well: Whole30, and now paleo/clean/low calorie... very limited sugar and dairy. I’ve been working out 6 days a week.

I thought I’d lose something simply from dropping sugar and wheat. But the scale hasn’t budged an ounce. I feel better, though. Less belly fat..or was it just bloat.

If diet and exercise aren’t it, then how on earth will I lose weight?!

I am in kind of the same situation. I feel like maybe it’s just that the inflammation in my body has been reduced. I feel less bloated and more compact although I haven’t lost more than 2-3 pounds.

You need to do more than “eat clean.”

Portion sizes. You will not lose weight if you eat too much, even if the food is “clean.”

How many calories a day are you eating?

Don't focus exclusively on the scale. Focus on how you feel better, have more energy. Focus on your measurements, and how your clothing fits. In my experience, those things change before the scale does. And, as PP said, perhaps pay closer attentiom to portion size.

This.

Also you could be gaining muscle. Are your clothes fitting better in the waist?

Yes, as someone who has lost 40 pounds but who has 20 more to go, you need to track calories every day, and every single one. The eating part is much more important than the exercising part. (I'm not saying don't exercise. There are so many health-related reasons to exercise. But for weight loss, watch the calories).

Yep. You get fit in the gym. You get fat in the kitchen.

I eat 1800 a day, and am generally starving and angry all day.

Is this OP?

I have to eat around 1200 to lose. I’m short though (5’4”), smallish frame.

Op, there is a hole somewhere, or multiple ones. I realized that innthe same situation last year. I signed up for noom, which really focused on tracking. Ot was hard to do with kids but valuable bc i leamred tp separate what i was eating from my childrens amd really track portion sizes. I found a lot holes innmy diet that i had been blind to. Red wine, crackers, cheese while cooking were adding up to 300 calories or more ( cheese portions are tinnnny!) before we even sat down to dinner. We wpuld have those out while

Ah. Sounds like you’re doing everything you’re supposed to. Keep at it. Maybe go by the way your clothes fit as it will be a better indicator of fat loss than the scale.

So unfortunately it sounds like you need to eat less.

Try changing up what you're eating and when you're eating to see how it affects your hunger and mood. Like I know that if I try to not eat bread, I'm a cranky b*tch. But I also know that if I eat bread, I have to eat less in general. I choose eating bread every day.

Sorry, my phone froze! - while waiting for.my husband to come home, and we would eat late amd usually finish the bottle of red wine over dinner.!!! Portion sizes were a wreck. They were what i was used to eating. I gradually just put less on the plate. If still hungry i always had extra arugula or something healthy and low calorie.

After seeing the evidence in person, i then made changes. Sparkling water and kombucha instead of wine. Leaving a dinner plate for my husband but sitting down earlier without him to finish at a decent hour, helped tremendously with bedtime routine. No.fights about dishes bc i could get most of them done since i wasnt sitting around gorging on cheese. Healthier habits are not always the most fun to begin, but the weight started coming off and my energy went even higher. I lost ten lbs without trying once i got my habits and portion sizes in place. Its not an easy thing, you have to be willing to tale a hard look. Giving up our family dinner was a nightmare for me but has honestly paid huge dividends and my husband can choose to get home by 6 if he wants to sit down with us.

I'm 46, 5'3 and 141. I have lost 5 and have 5 more to go. The driver for my weight loss is my high blood pressure. So I plug away at it.

I'm doing WW. It doesn't sound right---eat all the 0pt foods you want. But it is working. Very, Very, Very slowly. There are weeks that I lose .25lbs and a good week is that I lose .50lbs. When I get my period, I put on 5 and it negates the weeks of work that I've put in but it quickly goes away the next week.

For me the tracking of the scale each week is key. I can see the .1, .2 .5 drops week after week. It is so slow it is frustrating. The benefit is that the time this is taking is teaching me to make better choices. Not just for the day but for the week. If we go out to eat on Tuesday because the kids have activities and we're pressed for time, I can't do it again on Friday and Sunday. I can have 1 glass of wine a week, not per day.

The benefit to the 0pts is that even if I've eaten all my pts for the day, I still can make chicken and vegetables for dinner.
