I am doing a last retrieval cycle, and then we are doing FETs. Since I have embryos from earlier retrieval cycles, RE says I can do this last retrieval, then start lupron for FET protocol a week after retrieval. That's instead of waiting for post-retrieval period then waiting for ovulation and then starting lupron. Has anyone done this or have insight into the pros/cons of doing this? Obviously, it saves some time but I wonder how terrible I'm going to feel going straight through.
It sounds like you’re essentially doing a fresh cycle but with a frozen embryo? If yes, I wouldn’t worry. Many, many women transfer after retrieval in fresh cycles, Often more frequently in clinics then frozen.
OP here. It's not exactly like a fresh transfer. In that case I'd put an embryo in 5 days after retrieval. Here, they do the retrieval and think of it as ovulation in a FET cycle. So retrieval, then 7 days later start lupron, then 7 days later have period, then start FET meds (estrogen on day 3, then progesterone, then transfer around day 23.). Feels like the worst of both worlds to me.
I was planning to do this but didn’t get any viable embryos. So I am starting another cycle from scratch. But yes my doc was fine with it.
Why is it the worst of both worlds? |
OP. I did exactly what you were suggested (but did not use Lupron in my case). Mine turned out to be chemical. I do not know had I waited/rested one menses cycle, things would have been different? I don't know.
