Hi! I would appreciate your comments about our PK3 list. We are in Bloomingdale, one parent working downtown & other from home, IB for Langley.
1. Lee Montessori PCS 2. Inspired Teaching Demonstration PCS 3. School-Within-School 4. Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS 5. DC Bilingual PCS 6. Creative Minds International PCS 7. School Without Walls @ Francis-Stevens 8. Mundo Verde Bilingual PCS 9. Capitol Hill Montessori School @ Logan 10. Seaton Elementary School 11. Breakthrough Montessori PCS 12. Langley Elementary School The other two schools that we are interested in and might add after the open houses in the coming few days are - Stokes and Hyde Addison. So any inputs about if and where in the list they should be great. We have applied to LAMB as well. Any other school outside the MySchoolDC that you guys recommend? Thank You! |
| You might look at Thompson, which is downtown, too. |
|
Chances for PK3 at Mundo Verde are vey close to zero. Yiu have it ranked below a lot of schools that are easier to get into.
Be sure you are down for the location transitions of Hyde-Addison and Breakthrough. |
| I think Bethune is outside the lottery, but I would not choose it over Langley. |
|
I think CHML is misplaced on your list. It is very hard to get into, harder than SSMA.
I give you 50% chance of Langley and 20% chance of Seaton with that list |
REMINDER **** How 'hard' it is to get into a school shouldn't affect where you rank it. Rank in order of your true preference. |
REMINDER **** It still affects whether the OP is wasting a spot. Stop it already. |
OP here- are you suggesting that we should remove CHML from the list? what other school would make more sense? The only other schools that I checked out personally that aren't on the list are Bridges - which I liked but thought wasn't better than out IB Langley, and Two Rivers which I disliked due to lack of open space and parking issues ( But then again, they advertise themselves as being harder to get into than Harvard, so not sure if TR is going to be a great option either). |
PP's valid point is that if you rank an easier-to-get-into school above a harder-to-get-into school, listing the harder-to-get-into school is effectively pointless, because you will get into the easier-to-get-into school before the more popular one and will drop off the latter's waitlist. |
This. There is no scenario that results in you getting into CHML with the list you provided. Consider altering your ranking, or removing it. |
| I suppose you could replace CHML with JO Wilson, but persinally I got offers from both and chose Langley for the SEL curriculum. No regrets. |
Sure you did. It's great that the Langley PTA is so enthusiastic about the school, but this is peak boosterism here. |
+1. I've read at least 5 posts in as many days about the SEL curriculum at Langley. |
Fine, but I really did, and I really do like it. JO Wilson is also farther away and that's not nothing. |
PP here. Trust me, they are like this in the real world, too. |
