Will someone please talk about ice dancing with me? I'm sorry, but I just cannot understand how Papadakis and Cizeron got a higher score than Virtue and Moir for the free dance. I just watched both of them again and P&C are beautiful, yes, but the choreography and execution didn't hold a candle to what Tessa and Scott did. It makes me irrationally upset that if Papadakis didn't have her wardrobe malfunction, they could have potentially won gold. |
Really? Because I thought the opposite! I was so moved by the French team's performance, and thought the Canadians were great but not as amazing. I don't know much about the technical difficulty of the routines, but I thought the French had the edge on artistry. |
+1 ; and I like the French team's free dance as well. |
I have no idea. The Canadians were great, but I actually preferred the French team. |
Virtue has no natural grace at all. The French couple is miles ahead of the Canadiens in terms of flow and deep edges. |
P&C's free was great but it's their SHORT that was scored wrong. I mean, they got difficulty level 4s on some of the elements that should have been 2s. They were shaky and made a few mistakes and there was no dock for her wardrobe malfunction. They should have been battling for bronze or silver at that point but they scored over 80! The judges were propping them up for a battle for gold. I can't believe that the US or Italy didn't launch a complaint on that scoring.
Not to mention the fact that both of them were completely rude and incredibly bad sportsmen. I can't remember his exact comment but Cizeron said something nasty about the fact that Tessa and Scott came out of retirement to go for the gold (something about his *artistry* being more important to him). |
Ha! You might be the only person in the entire world that says that Tessa Virtue has no natural grace. |
Those clunky feet? And that whiny, bad-sport of a partner? They make me cringe. And I’m not the only one who feels that way. |
Virtue and Moir skate faster, and have more innovative choreography and musical choices. The French and Russians really rely on the classical ballet style. It's beautiful, if done well, but it has been done. to. death. The judging scandal (French and Russian vote trading) back in SLC was propping up that style. |
You don’t know figure skating, do you? |
+1 |
Do you? |
Yes. But you don’t. |
The Canadians were far superior to the French and I agree that the short program judging was suspicious. |
Virtue and Moir are flashier, Papadakis and Cizeron are artistry and grace and everything that is beautiful in my eyes.
To me it's like the difference between Dancing with the Stars and Swan Lake performed by a world-renowned ballet company. It just depends on what you prefer. And since figure skating relies on some subjective scoring and not just technical points, it will just depend on what the judges prefer. |
