Pressure in pelvic area, out of breath and miserable

Anonymous
I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and am feeling more miserable with this pregnancy than my other two. I have constant pressure/pain in my pelvic area and get out of breath extremely easily, to the point I feel like I need an oxygen mask! I have high amniotic fluid, so I know that's why I get out of breath easily, but I don't know why I am feeling pressure/pain in my pelvic area. I never felt this with the other two. Not to mention my heartburn is out of control and I can't sleep! Is anyone else this miserable?

Yes. I'm 38 weeks with #2, and I've been miserable since about 30 weeks. Like you, I've been very short of breath and had bad heartburn; also have had tons of BH contractions since the beginning of 3rd tri. Sadly, it's all much worse now, at 38 weeks -- I've had increasingly painful contractions on and off for more than a week, my back is killing me, and I can't sleep for more than an hour without waking. Most nights, I end up sleeping in a recliner for the last few hours. It's miserable. The only way I console myself is by remembering that there is an end -- and by realizing that this extreme discomfort has gotten me past my fear of having a newborn and a toddler. Good luck to you!

I am in my 35th week and feeling quite miserable as well. So far I have been pretty lucky throughout my pregnancy (i.e no morning sickness, etc in first trimester) but am feeling more and more uncomfortable and tired since I am in my third trimester. I have also difficulty breathing, increasing back pain and just can't seem to find anymore any comfortable position to sit for more than 10 minutes or to sleep.

I had a similar experience with my pregnancy. I think it was just the way the baby was situated, and I ended up having back labor. The baby could be pushing on some of your lower spine or nerves..I am a PT and I had one of my colleagues treat me and ended up using an SI Belt for the last few weeks which helped me. They don't help everyone, so if you can try it on first and see if it gives you some relief.

Good luck!

Agree with the PPs that it probably has a lot to do with how the baby is situated versus how your other babies were. I'm having twins, and the double whammy is doing a number on my pelvis and my back. I'm working with a chiropractor to help with the back and pelvic pain, and in addition to the visits, she gave me some exercises I can do on my own. I also think that prenatal yoga does a lot to help with my overall conditioning and relieving "the pelvic floor". I did get a maternity support belt, too, to help relieve the downward pressure on the pelvis. I can't wear it all day, but it does seem to help. I haven't found any help with the breathlessness...moving pretty slowly at 32 weeks! Good luck!

With my last pregnancy I had lots of heartburn, reflux and congestion - post-nasal drip which limited both eating and sleep after 30 weeks. It would help to sleep occassionaly in a recliner and not eat after 6:00PM, and stay upright for a long time after eating/ drinking. at 34 weeks I developed pulsatile tinnutis - a constant ringing / pulsing in my ear. After dealing with all this for another 2-3 weeks my OB gave me some Ambian (sp?) to help sleep due to the tinnitus. While I went through the entire pregnancy being extra cautious about everything - I finally decided to take to medication on a few evenings. Just to get a few nights of 'better' sleep I could not beleive the difference.
I used a sacral belt for low back pain - the only thing that help the pelvic pressure was the recliner in a full tilt (gravity eliminating)....this position was even worse for the refulx / heartburn though. I also have one of those large therapuetic balls - those are great for stretching and pelvic mobility exercises. If it gets really bad, a physical therapist can give you advice on some exercises you can do in just 1 or 2 appointments.

Currently pregnant with twins amd on bed rest...can't believe how much worse things are this time...though no tinnitus and that was the worst of the worst. Since I only have a few positions I can be in, I do a lot of positioning changes with pillows...some are quite creative.
